Dr. Google is actually not giving me a ton of information regarding heart rates at 5w5d. I had my first u/s today, and was prepared to not see the fetal pole, and really did not expect to get a heart rate. But then I did, and it was 85 bpm. I haven't talked to the doctor or the nurse, just the tech, who I oddly didn't know. When I asked if that was normal, all she would say is "it's early." (And not in a way that sounded confident.)
Does anyone know anything about FHB this early? Anyone else have a heart rate that started in the 80's or low 90's. I got back next week, but that seems so far away!
Thanks in advance! I hate these early weeks. I almost wish they didn't have me come in til next week, when I know more of what to expect. The fetal pole was measuring 2.5 mm if that's important. Also, my heart rate is usually slow.

I've not had a u/s that early, but I have read so many stories. That is quite early for a heart rate to start (my RE required the first u/s to be not before 6.5 weeks as long as they were only looking for viability rather than checking placement because he said you can't expect one before then). I've almost always seen rates for right when the heart started in the 80s or 90s around here and back on PgAL.
ETA: probably Dr. Google doesn't have much because it's not terribly common to get a heart beat that early. Personally I'd be encouraged if I were you.
I'm going to share my experience but it's not going to be super reassuring.
I saw the heartbeat by 6 weeks with all 4 losses. Second one had a heartbeat of 75 and the dr. said a minimum of 90 was okay so she was worried. Third one was a heartbeat of 90, so on the lower end of normal, but a misshapen sac which indicated likely loss. Fourth was a heartbeat of 54 I think and basically dr. said nothing but I knew by then what to expect.
That being said, I've done a TON of googling on the subject. The heartbeat normally starts anywhere from like 70-80 and increases about 3 beats a day. So at 5.5 it is absolutely possible and not even unlikely that the heart had only just started beating. I would say maybe take that "cautiously optimistic" approach - I've had only bad experiences but there are a huge number of people who have had better outcomes.
meladorie thanks for sharing. Cautiously optimistic is my current state of mind. My next scan is 6/4. I'll be 6w5d.
Was the cause of your losses determined? (Sorry, I may have known this before, but it's been awhile since we have been on the same board!)

Short answer is no. Long answer is they thought I had a clotting disorder and gave me lovenox and I had my rainbow. My hematologist wasn't convinced and retested and nixed the original diagnosis. Just this past month I was pg again and we did all the same blood thinner meds and progesterone (but not the femara at start of cycle) and that was my fourth loss. At this point, 2 REs and countless OBs have no clue.
My son was born at 31 weeks and they also don't know why. What I DO know is: I have an arcuate uterus, single strand mthfr, ana and anti-Dna positive, and they had thought protein s deficient. None of those things alone is likely to cause mc. My MFM speculated that together it resulted in this issue where basically as the placenta formed, a clot developed that blocked blood flow to the fetus. But, with this recent loss where I was on those blood thinners, well it makes no sense. At this point the best hope is that somehow this one actually was chromosomal (testing on second was normal) and was a fluke, but I'm not expecting that (results still pending)

hugs glb30, ! I'm on the team of people who didn't see a fetal pole at 5w6d so no experience to help you out, but wanted to say that I'm rooting for you! I'll keep my fingers crossed and waiting for your update
With my rainbow, my 1st u/s at 5wks6 did not show a HB. I was told it was too early and all they were looking for at that scan was that the baby was in my ute. 2nd u/s on 6wks3 showed a HB of 98. I forget now what the NP told me as far as how many beats develop per day that early on, but I want to say it's like 3 beats a day, so by that estimate, your LO could be similar in 4 days. Are you having repeat scan soon?

eliz77 thanks for sharing! That makes me feel better! I should be right around that level by my next scan, which is on 8/3- I'll be 6w3d, so the same day you had your second scan!
@maaseybaby thank you for the positive thoughts!!! I'll update next week. 😊
