Let's Talk "Take Home Outfits"...

Happy Monday Ladies! 

So recently I've been thinking about what outfit I'd want to have for the baby to wear in the hospital or to come home in.... I found some super cute wraps from "MilkMaidGoods" if we had a girl... not sure what we'd do if we had a boy. Obviously baby couldn't come home in a wrap, but those ones are so much cuter than the hospital ones!

For us the first time around, it was so hard to decide what to bring (although we ended up with nothing since she was early) but I couldn't decide.... do you bring a newborn outfit or 0-3? Baby could be 5 lbs or 9 lbs! It gets even harder when you don't know if you're having a boy or girl! Ahhh! 

Also, thought it'd be cute to have something Christmas colors or related... can't really find anything though.

I'm so glad you posted this! I've been thinking about this too.

I think Christmas stuff is just now starting to come out from the boutiques, and I haven't seen any mainstream retailers selling anything yet.

Also, how do you keep the baby warm!? My mom was saying we just need to get a gown, but then their little legs are exposed when you buckle the carseat. From what I've read, it seems like they recommend a combination of onesie, sleeper/gown, hat, and then blanket over the carseat. Of course I'm in Texas, so it may not be THAT cold. However, for the northern mamas, I know snowsuits are not recommended for carseat safety.

As far as sizing goes, I have no idea. I was considering buying the same thing in both sizes, if it's not too expensive. Is that crazy?

I'm having trouble balancing style and function here. Would love to hear what the STMs have to say.

I plan on getting a newborn and 0-3 month outfit.  And I like buying a white or a cream colored one as the take home outfit. I plan to have as much ready by 30 wks in case I have any issues like last time (FX I don't but want to be prepared). I usually shop at TJ maxx. But I think this year might be the start of more online shopping.

lola, I don't do gowns for my boys just pjs with the little cutsie baby hats. I live in Chicago and had DS Dec 1st.  Basically, he'd be in his pjs, hat and then a thick blanket over his car seat.  We'd warm up the car before taking DS out to it. So, no need to bundle him up or anything. And yeah, the baby clothes I buy are usually under $20 so I have no problem buying 2 outfits.

I'm not really sure what we're going to do. The weather could be anywhere from 60 degrees and sunny to high 30s and rainy. I might get something festive-ish for her to come home in, I saw a cute little festive-color dress at BBB last week that I might go back and get.

G was born 6/1 so we didn't have to worry about what the temp was going to be... we're in WI, so it can get really cold here which makes me nervous about taking a newborn out in December!

Even though she was a summer baby, she actually lived mainly in sleepers for the first few months anyway.... and yes, the gowns! I agree that having a boy may be weird in a gown, but for anyone team pink the gowns are amazing! We loved them. I'm also thinking of buying a newborn and 0-3 month sleeper... I think if it's cold, if you had a onesie on and then a sleeper plus a nice hat and a thick blanket over the top, baby would be fine. Our pediatrician actually had always recommended keeping her in a onesie, plus the sleeper AND a hat.... she said even though it was warm out, babies don't regulate their temps for awhile and she didn't want her to lose body heat.

It sounds so cheesy, I'm sure, but I brought DS and DD home in the exact same outfit. I had saved it, so I plan on bringing this baby home in it too. It's just a green and white stripped PJ outfit with a tiny frog on it.

Lucy, that's not cheesy!!!! I think it's cute and then you can do some side-by-side comparisons. And who knows, maybe one day they'd bring their own baby home in that outfit.

I never even thought about this! Mine will be Thanksgiving babies, so maybe I'll dress them up as turkeys (kidding)

I found a cute little outfit from Ross in newborn. It says "Seriously Adorable". I'm doing his nursery in grey and orange.



Should be warm enough for December in So Cal with some socks and a carseat blanket.

I should pick out a 0-3 month outfit as well, just in case.

hmr11913 that is sooooo freaking cute!!

DS1 was due on Opening Day for our baseball team. He came a few days earlier, but I had a really cute t-shirt that I stuck a long sleeved onesie under, hat and booties for our team with a pair of jeans.

DS2 was born about a month after our team won the Super Bowl so he had similar, but our football team with the same jeans.

The jeans were 0-3 months and swimming on them both, but it was totally cute. I'll probably take the outfit DS2 wore since it'll be football season and I'm not sure what to do about buying something in case of the unlikely event we end up with a girl. There's a Carters down the street I could have DH run to or do I need to buy something? LOL. I do want to look (and I have been a little bit) for some sort of Christmasy something to wear while there because we def need cute Christmas pics.

Lol get a 0-3 month outfit so you're not like me and trying to squeeze your nine pounder into a newborn outfit! DS was born in March in the midst of a snowstorm. I'll see if I can find a picture of him in his take home outfit. It was a quilted one piece that had covered feet, mittens and a hood. We also tucked a blanket around him in the car.

Funny story, my sister wound up riding home from the hospital with us because her DH accidentally left her. She thought she was riding over to our house with him, he thought she was riding with my mom. She flagged us down in the parking lot. It was 20 degrees and she didn't have a jacket on

P.S. I'm a fan of sleeper gowns! DS wore them in the hospital and to bed his first month. It's so easy to change a diaper at 3 am because you just slide the gown up and don't have to deal with zippers and buttons.

Please excuse how strung out I look. I spent five days in the hospital, had hardly slept and was on so much percoset (sp?). C-sections are fun.

Fleece suits like this work as well. (I'm car seat Nazi, the suit isn't as thick as it looks and DS passed the pinch test with and without it on. Also, I know the buckles aren't right. I put him in and snapped a picture prior to adjusting the straps.)

I love the sleep sacks.... we had G in those for months.... so easy to just have the legs together in the same space and only one zip, plus I feel like having the legs together in the same space was warmer?

How cute is this?! I'm tempted to buy it but $40 for something he'll outgrow so fast....dunno. On the other hand, he's getting all DS clothes so I won't be spending any money on other clothes

I've been on the hunt for something cute, but so far no luck. With both older DDs, we brought them home in cute summer dress type outfits. However, not sure what to get for a winter baby. I still want something cuter than just a sleeper.

As far as for the car seat, we'll just throw a blanket over it and DH will warm the car up before we go out, so I'm not real worried about that. Baby will go 6 feet out the hospital door into the warm car and then we'll pull into our attached garage.

I never liked baby gowns. They never stayed in place and the bottom always ended up jacked up around their hips in no time. I'm sticking to footie sleepers and fleece sleepsacks this time.

I just bought this on Amazon to go with our going home outfit/Christmas. It was so cheap, so I figured, why not?

So I have already bought like 6 sleepers in Newborn. I may return for 0-3m. DD only lasted like 2 weeks in her NB. So I don't want to have to many. NOT to mention if he is bigger. I am bringing both sizes with us NB and 0-3. I wasn't thinking of doing Christmas theme....BUT now that you guys mention it I have to search for one now. Oh and we do an undershirt and a cotton sleeper and just use blanket, hat and a cover goes over the car seat.

We live in MI now...so to be honest I might have to rethink that strategy when the winter hits and I see what I am dealing with.

Is it bad that I haven't even thought about this? Honestly I'm not sure I care, is that bad, too?!? LOL. I think I just want to get her home safe and sound and then play around with some cute outfits and lay her out on one of our furry blankets for photos when we're just sitting around. She'll probably just come home in comfy/cute pajamas.

crimpgirl, both of my DDs were over 8lbs and the newborn outfits I took were huge on them. This time I'm taking a newborn and premie outfit.
