Stupid pacifier, stupid husband, and stupid me for listening to him. My husband hated to see DS suck his fingers and insisted he take a pacifier. Now the little baby I spent months learning how to sleep on his own, with out using nursing, rocking, shhhhing, etc, now HAS to sleep with a paci. DH and I are now doing the Paci Shuffle several times a night. Please help me wean this baby!!!
You have my sympathy too. We are in the same boat with DS. With DD, we took away the pacifer when we did sleep training and didn't let her have it again till she could put it back in 100% of the time by herself. I regret ever giving it back to her. She sleeps awesome but she is two and still has to have her binky at night.

At this point it may be easier to just wait until he can put it in his mouth by himself. It can't be long now, right? I've heard of people scattering pacifiers in the crib to up the odds of the baby finding one and putting into his mouth. I haven't done it myself, so I can't speak to how well it works.
We took the pacifier away to sleep train and never looked back.
Our DD quit using her pacifier shortly after we got it for her, so I can say it's cute and she enjoyed staring contests with him, but know nothing about how it would hold up of if I'd feel safe with it overnight. (we have the monkey)
I was so angry last night that I let Stupid Husband, aka SH, talk me into it. DS is in a Merlin Sleep Suit, so it's be pretty hard for him to maneuver around to find the paci. I think SH and I will just have to take it away. My mom watches DS during the day and is also trying to keep it away from him. SH is going to have to be the one who goes in MOTN b/c with me, DS wants to nurse back to sleep, and he is capable of STTN. I don't want to use nursing as the replacement for the paci.
This has been on my mind too. We just sleep trained and she goes down for the night like a champ, but we still do the paci game motn when it's not a feeding time because it's motn and I'm freaking tired. Does it mess up their teeth or has that been determined a myth? I think we're going to slowly wean one thing at a time. Maybe when she's sleeping soundly through the night we will slowly take it away. I like sleep too much. Everything works until it doesn't, right?

It can't be any worse for your teeth than the way my kid sucks on his entire fist all day.
Also, both my siblings were thumb suckers. I wouldn't take a paci and never sucked my fingers. I was the one that needed braces. So, I wouldn't stress about it.

I would just take it away and throw them out so you aren't tempted to grab it! We did at 4 months and it was the best decision. I would hate the play the paci game all night. Plus I hated worrying if I packed it in the bag before leaving the house each time.

A dentist told my SIL that nuks were the best for not messing up teeth. But also its fine for teeth until 18 months, I think.
