Hi everybody!
I thought I would introduce myself here. I am a former 3T and PAIF mamma just trying to figure out where I fit now. I have tried out a couple of different boards since the babies came, but not sure why this hasn't been one of them yet. :-)
My boy/girl twins are nearly 10 months old. They were born last October at 31 weeks 6 days due to totally unexpected spontaneous pre-term labor. Baby Girl was in the NICU 4 weeks, Baby Boy was in for 8. Baby Boy had some pretty significant health issues unrelated to prematurity -- congenital heart defects (primarily a large VSD) and congenital renal disease (only one, under sized functioning kidney). For a while he was in both heart and renal failure. Scary times, for sure. But now, 10 months with 13 weeks in-patient between 4 hospital stays later, his heart is repaired and his little kidney kicked into gear and is doing reasonably well for the time being. Likely still a kidney transplant in his future, but not yet. At this point we are only dealing with feeding issues (severe oral aversion and nasty GERD), so he is still NG fed for now, and developmental delays due to how sick he was. Since surgery, he has been making advances in leaps and bounds and is starting to catch up.
Baby Girl is doing great and has no residual medical issues from being a preemie -- other than being a tad developmentally behind her actual age (though still ahead of her adjusted age). She is, for the most part, a very happy little girl. She loves food and eats her cereal and puree like a champ. Not so excited about bottles these days, though, and getting her to take her formula is sometimes a challenge. She still loves to nurse, though, but I am not sure how much longer I can keep it up now that she has her front top and bottom teeth. Ouch!
The babies are really starting to show an interest in each other these days. Baby Boy, especially, just loves to watch sister play. He laughs and laughs watching her and tries to mimic her behavior at times (particularly jumping, though for him it is more head and torso bobbing, as he does not yet stand). I feel we are starting to get to the fun part of having twins. It has been a heck of a ride so far, lots of work and more stress than I ever imagined, but so very worth it.
I look forward to getting to know you ladies and sharing a bit of this adventure with you.
