I'm a little late to the game but I was wondering for those of you who work outside of the home, what do you do? And those of you who are SAHM, what did you do previously?

I'll start! I work at a local hospital as a Physical Therapist. I am employeed PRN which means I work as needed. I end up working typically 1-2 days a week. Mostly on days that other therapists are on vacation or if there is a heavy patient load and they need extra help. The other days I'm at home with the kids. I find it's a good balance right now. I enjoy both... And some days I'm really excited to get out of the house and be able to socialize with adults lol.
I used to manage group homes for adults with developmental disabilities and it was the most amazing job ever. I hope to be able to do it again some day.
redt, I knew you were in medicine, but I did not realize you were a peds resident or maybe I did know that?
cuppycakes, I'm a Neonatal Clinical Nurse Specialist in an urban Level III NICU. I work full time M-F, roughly 45-50hrs/week but will be working hard to leave at 40hrs/week for the next year or so! Basically, I guide nursing practice in the NICU based on evidence, research, guidelines and so on. I write a lot of guidelines, and then I also work with families (especially the more complex ones) to help them understand why their babies are in the NICU. I also teach a lot of the OB, Mother/Baby, ER and NICU staff on various NICU-related topics (like neonatal resuscitation).

I am a social worker in child welfare. My current position involves developing curriculum and training child welfare workers. It's a much more predictable schedule than working in the field was, although I sometimes miss having direct client contact.

I'm a certified social studies teacher. I spent the last few years working as a computer teacher/tech support/computer maintenance/publicity person at the local library. I'm currently on a year long leave of absence (unpaid).
At the end of the year leave I can request an additional year or I could go back/resign. We would like for me to stay home so we are using this year to see how our finances play out.
I'm a veterinarian. Dogs are gross, but people are grosser.
Haha! Grownups are gross. Kids are awesome. Yes I'm aware that people call peds veterinary medicine.
LOL!!! I CAN'T do adults. I worked in the ER/Trauma center for a while and trauma aside, I couldn't handle all the more....boring emergencies. I like the adrenaline! Not so much the bedpans, alcohol poisoning and such. I sometimes think about going to work at a pediatric trauma center. But I just CAN'T. I'll never sleep again!
I'm a SAHM now. Before SAH, I was a High School Administrator over a Special Education program. Before that, I taught students with severe disabilities. I loved it and miss it!
redt I didn't know you are a peds resident! I bet you are managing a lot right now!

I work in corporate finance. In a niche that's relatively small. I manage a portfolio of about $75MM in loan commitments, mostly in high tech and/or venture backed companies.

I was working in a medical library as a library technician (copy cataloging, processing new materials, updating databases and working at the reference desk). I now SAH with the triplets while going to graduate school fulltime online to become a librarian with a focus on youth services with some collection management in there.

Clinical geneticist
I look for genetic abnormalities (problems in the DNA) that may explain health issues many people face and provide information to help doctors make a more informed decision for treatment.
If you got an Amniotic Fluid or CVS drawn - it got sent to someone like me to check if everything was normal.
