I am at work so this is a post and run. Has anyone had a colposcopy before? How was it? Is it possible that an abnormal pap can turn out to be nothing in the end? I need to do some googling when I have time but I thought I would ask for experiences here first. (It's always something, isn't it???)

I have had several abnormal paps that were no issue. I did have one where I had to have surgery to remove cancerous cells. The surgery was nothing big and no lasting problems. I don't think you should worry. It might sound scary but loads of woman have abnormal paps.
Thank you thank you! Sigh of relief. My mom had ovarian cancer so I cringe at anything being abnormal, but I'll just put worries aside until the actual results,
I had an abnormal pap when first pregnant and followed up with a colposcopy at 8 weeks PP. Mine came back normal. However my OB was very reassuring that even if it indicated cells need to be removed, they were catching things so early that it would not be a problem!
YES! Not to worry. I have had multiple abnormal paps that turned out to be nothing. Good luck!
THIS. I've had 2 or 3 and they have never found anything. The first one did upset me quite a bit as my aunt had ovarian cancer and it brought up all of my fears again. But all is well and I haven't had an ab pap in years now.
