kelltothekell - woo hoo! Have fun! We were up on the Olympic peninsula last September and are going again next month. So beautiful up there. We are having great weather this week in the PNW, too. Enjoy!
Guys I'm tired. Saturday my kids never slept. They took turns screaming all. Night. long. Then today Nat has an ent appt. it's pouring rain. I had to park a literal mile away. Someone took my stroller out of the car. So I had to carry her in her car seat in the pouring rain for a mile. Now I'm in a huge waiting room trying to get her to nap. I am ready for tomorrow already.

snd1231, hugs - that sounds awful. I hope you can get some time away from the kiddos soon.
Our flight back was changed *again* so that we were only going to have a 45 min layover in Atlanta - changing terminals and going to an international flight (that starts boarding 45 min in advance) with 3 kids. Ha. The only other option was to get on a flight leaving at 6am and then having a 9 hour layover in Atlanta. So frustrated. The flight I originally booked left at 11:30am with a 3.5 hour layover - perfect. Now it has turned into one horrible option or another.

So glad you made it to Seattle kelltothekell! Enjoy your vacation!
I'm so sorry snd1231. You truly are a rockstar mama and I echo what crimsonandclover said. You deserve a break!
Those options suck, crimsonandclover. Is there an airport hotel in Atlanta where you could get a day room to hang out in and rest up? If so, that might be the best option. I think trying to make the 45 min connection with 3 kids is next to impossible.

I got overly invested in this crimsonandclover. The ATL website blows. But I did find some info on club lounges you could buy day passes at or a list of hotels. I'd guess the hotels would be the cheaper option.

scorpioscuba, haha, thanks! Did you see the Minute Suites? That's what we did on the way over here because we had a 7 hour layover (that turned into 8 hours). It was a great optionn because we didn't have to leave security and it felt like the MOTN so the kids wanted to sleep. Going this way it's a daytime layover, so that option wouldn't work.
Honestly, I don't want to leave security and have to go through it again (picture dealing with jackets and shoes with 3 kids, one double stroller that has to be folded and unfolded, liquids like baby food that have to be taken out and checked separately, plus carry-ons for 5 people. Security is not fun, and that's not including waiting in the line for however long with 2 fidgety LOs), so the airport hotels aren't really an option. We'll figure out something, and I've already gotten some new glitter coloring sheets to occupy them for a while.
But yeah, the 45 min layover would mean we would be landing as our international flight started to board (in a different terminal). Nope.
What are ya'll doing for food right now? G is literally choking on his slobber when he sees us eat something and it's breaking my heart. But the dude can break anything in half with those gums!
I'm thinking banana, avocado,...and that's about where my brain stops. I'm a very picky eater so it's hard for me to come up with things that he can have and not choke on. We've tried the little bite things that dissolve pretty quickly and those get stuck at the top of his mouth and I have to stick my finger in to get it off the roof of his mouth and he'll swallow it at that point.
But it really is so sad when he starts drooling so much when we sees us with a bowl, plate or even a cup.

newmomma8 I've been giving her small pieces of what I'm eating. If it's something that needs chewing I give a very small bite that can be gummed. So chicken I make sure it's not hard then I give her a piece flattened the size of a pencil eraser. I put noodles, vegetables,...... Anything we are eating. Not much makes it in unless I help with little pieces though. With DD1 I did the purées and she never liked them.

Here is lunch today. She's knocked off most of the green beans. As you can see she tries to eat but not much gets in. She makes the loudest smacking sound while we are eating if I'm not giving her stuff too.
Post by scorpioscuba on Aug 15, 2016 14:03:05 GMT -5
I see you had that covered, crimsonandclover ! I totally get not wanting to go through security. SUCH a hassle!
newmomma8 , DD pretty much gets everything we eat just sized for her I guess you could say. Friday night we had steak and I cut big adult thumb sized strips. She held onto it and chewed/sucked on it. She LOVED it. She also enjoys plain yogurt mixed with banana. You could cut up strips of toast for him to dip into it and suck it off or just feed with a spoon. Strips of nearly rip avocado (easier to hold onto and not as slippery). DD has had rice too and loved that. Strips of veggies like red pepper, cucumber. She likes apple or pear slices. Everything is usually big enough for her to hold onto and chew/suck on. SaveSave

DD has not pooped in days. I'm getting scared. I predict a major blowout soon. I just hope it happens at home and not when we are out and about. *knocks on wood*
She is also doing the cutest thing where she hooks her thumb into the corner of the mouth and babbles away. It's adorable.
As if today wasn't bad enough. I almost wrecked bc my tires are awful. There goes $500 I didn't need to spend. Oh and Nataleigh needs surgery like now. Great :/

newmomma8 my trio (well two of the three) eat bits of whatever I eat. When out they love sweet potato, green beans if soft, mashed potatoes, refried beans, Mexican rice, avacado, and I'm blanking lol.

It's nothing major. Her hemangioma (kinda like a birthmark) has ulcerated and grown dramatically. It's in the fold of the back of her neck and about the size of a silver dollar. Anyhow they are concerned with the vascular side of it. The longer we wait the more blood vessels they have to cut through etc. I was hoping it would go away with the steroid shots we've done in it and prescriptions etc but it's just worse.

Have fun kelltothekell! Glad your travel went well. snd1231, ugh, sorry for the though day. You truly are a super momma. Also, I don't think I physically could carry my LO a mile in his car seat - it's getting so heavy! crimsonandclover, here's hoping your connecting flight is delayed a bit? Good luck! scorpioscuba, my thoughts are with you and your LOs diaper. @newmomma, we started with table foods too - we do BLW style, so matchstick shaped, but if the food is hard I steam it until it can be smushed between two fingers. He likes steamed carrots. He was so so on green beans. He also loves cucumbers - he eats them raw and just kinda sucks out the seeds. Next, I'm planning to steam broccoli, sweet potato, and apples.

I've been trying to get things figured out for my move. It's such a pain. I am coming around to the idea that we'll need to buy a second car. But ugh, I hate spending money like that. Also, I think this means we might need to buy a second car seat base? Or maybe try to just use one car with the kiddo? What do you all do? And then when we move to a convertible car seat will we need to buy a second car seat? I hear this is what people do, but they're so expensive!
I'm thinking about moving my LO to his own room too once we move. He's in a mini crib at this point, and it's starting to look a little tight - he often ends up crunched in one side when he wakes up and he's too long to stretch out the short way. I don't really want to buy a new crib though. When do babies move to toddler beds (and by that I mean, I'm thinking we might go the mattress on the floor route)?

tinydancer, If you do get a second car, you could get a second car seat base or just go ahead and get a convertible for that vehicle since you'll need one eventually anyways. I already have DD in the convertible because my infant carrier was set to expire in December (reused from DS) and I got a great deal on Amazon Prime day. Just start shopping for sales now. If you don't need it too soon, Black Friday might be a good time to get one.
Many families can get away with just using one car for the kid. H and I both to do drop offs and pickups so we have to have 2 car seats in each car. Yes, it's expensive but the convertibles will last several years so it's worth it in the end.
I moved DS to his toddler bed at 15 months. That's early for many but it worked for us at the time and he was one to never leave his bed. He'd just call for us.
Good luck on your move! Is your husband still working away from home? Hopefully he can be there to help!

Even though it's not major, still scary having to put any little one through that. As if you all haven't been through enough already. So sorry it wasn't better news. 😔

Thanks scorpioscuba, I didn't even think about getting a convertible seat now but that makes so much sense!
MH is still away for work. Fortunately he will be coming home for the move, and even more fortunately, we're going to have the movers that pack everything up for you.
The bad news is, I don't think we'll have a house until we get down there (we're going to rent) because I don't feel comfortable signing a lease sight unseen and we won't be able to go look at houses until he's back. So we'll be in some sort of extend stay hotel type situation for a bit, but I'm hoping only a week or so.

tinydancer, yep, we both do pick-ups and drop-offs, too, and now with DD3 that means we will need 3 car seats in both cars. DD3 won't start daycare until she's 1, so until then we get away with only having her seat in the van but when she goes to daycare we'll need a seat in both cars. I would also go with a convertible so you can use it much longer.
So I packed, flew, rented a car, attended my family reunion, and returned all with my two kids - by myself. Single moms - you have my undying respect. I would give that vacation a solid five out of ten. Pros of solo parent vacations: No negotiations, not dealing with another adult's freakouts/anxiety, doing whatever you want. Cons: The schlepping. Oh my, so much schlepping! And solo poop cleanup. But basically schlepping and personal hygiene.
So now I have a gripe - DD is now in 12 month and 18 month clothes. Why is everything in this size shirts and tops? Her massive belly is shooting out from under all of the shirts. Where are the rompers? Where are the onesies? Help me out ladies - where are the baby clothes that still look like baby clothes, and not like teenage clothing? I found two rompers on carters and snatched them up like what!
Thanks for the sweet words ladies. The trio had a much better night. They are all passed out for their morning nap after 2 hours of therapy for them all.

That's amazing, 14joa31! I cannot imagine traveling with my 2 alone yet and my oldest is 5 and super helpful. I'm sure it's infinitely harder with younger ones.
Also, I usually find cute rompers at Gap or Gymboree. I'm struggling with clothes too because the stores are bringing out winter clothes and we won't be in those until about December.
OMG! Gymboree! Where have you been all my life? These clothes are off the freaking charts adorable - I think I feel my credit card starting to heat up ...

This does not compute! How have you never shopped there?! I'm glad you have discovered it now though!
They also have the Janie & Jack and Crazy 8 brands. Crazy 8 is to Gymboree as Old Navy is to Gap. I haven't ever checked out Janie & Jack though.

tinydancer - We just have one carseat for each kid. We have a family car that I usually drive, and then another car that my H uses for work. If he has the day off and stays home with the kids while I get out, I drive the work car. The only reason to get carseats for both would be if you both do drop offs and/or pick ups.
We moved dd1 to a floor mattress when she was about 7 months old. I bed shared with her in her room for many months after that, though. I think as long as the room is totally babyproofed and you have the door gated, you would be fine doing a floor mattress. I'm hoping to keep dd2 in the crib longer that that, and then hopefully moving both girls into the same room (and possibly bed) together. We will see, though. Dd1 has no interest in sharing her room as of now...

Janie and Jack is cute, but so silly. It's miniature clothing for baby Thurston Howell the third.
scorpioscuba - I get so many hand me downs that I only occasionally shop for my kids. But this batch of hand me downs was really disappointing, so I'm kinda desperate.
