I finally decided to make an account here. I posted a little on the Special Needs board on TB, but I don't know if anybody will remember me. I have two boys, age 5 and 2. I never updated on how DS1's Developmental Pediatrician appointment went.
They used the WPPSI-IV, which he was not able to complete. He basically shut down. His preschool teacher and I completed the Conners Early Childhood questionnaire and also the ASRS. These showed "several behavioral concerns commonly associated with ASD". They observed that he doesn't have play skills that they would expect at his age and that he shuts down with any language based task. However, the psychologist said that a diagnosis of ASD can't be made based on just these results, and that the ADOS-2 was only one part of a full evaluation.
They also did a preschool observation. After the fact, his preschool teacher told me that it went well and that she changed some things around during the day to set him up for success. I'm not thrilled about this as I don't think the psychologist got to see how he interacted in preschool on a normal day that they don't work around him so he has a good day.
So the Developmental Pediatrician said that although "on paper" it would look like he has ASD, she thinks most of it is from anxiety and maybe he has GAD. However, they don't diagnose GAD to children this young. She did recommend a social skills group and that we can have a re-evaluation in a year. We will have a re-evaluation, but at another Developmental Pediatrician that is highly recommended.
I have to put a little brag in here about DS2 because we are so excited.
The back story: from about 9 months old until about 20ish months he slowly lost weight, because of reflux and an oral aversion to all foods. He fell from the 90 % in weight 80 % in height to the 5% in weight 30% in height. We were *this* close to getting a G-Tube. Now, DS2 is doing great, he has been slowly but steadily gaining weight and when he was sick recently he did not lose any weight, which he always does. We just stopped nutrition therapy and he was discharged from his GI. His last day of PT was today! He has a 7-10 % delay which doesn't qualify him any longer with EI, although he still is in OT and Feeding Therapy/Speech.
