How are you addressing this with your almost 3yo?

We are getting ready for our family vacation and I'm trying to talk about what happens if she finds herself lost. I try and get her to say her name clearly and she just stands on her head and says "my name is Fookie"....riiiiight.

This leads me to the bigger picture, what should I be teaching at this age. When is it appropriate to ask a stranger for help versus never talk to strangers?

We haven't talked too much about stranger danger but I've been trying to teach her her full name and she gets pretty close most of the time (we have a simple last name thankfully). I'm not really sure how much they can grasp at this age but if I were going to try and teach her a little about it, I'd probably encourage her if she were lost to first look for another mommy with kids. She is already pretty leary about men and shys away from a lot of people so I figure she'd feel most comfortable going up to someone like that but who knows if thats a good idea, I don't want her to panic if there isn't another mommy around, ya know? Its probably never too early to discuss it but I'm not sure how far to go with it.

On a side note, if we were going to a busy place, water park, amusement park, state fair or something like that I'd attach a lost kid tag to her pants just for peace of mind. I know thats not possible at all times but a good idea for busy places.

I'd never really thought of any of this. but I like the idea of looking for a mommy.

DD is super shy and clingy and it's hard to imagine her ever leaving my sight. If she can't see me for 5 seconds she starts to cry. I honestly can't imagine her saying hi to a stranger, let alone asking for help.

DD knows her full name, but when she says it isn't clear at all.

We stopped at a McDonalds on the drive and DD told everybody "we're goin' to the beach".

Guess I should get on top of the full name thing! We haven't really talked about it very much b/c I'm not sure she would understand. I do like the idea of the ratios with my contact info on it if we were to go to an amusement park or something.

Umm... we have a lot of work to do. When you ask what her name is she still replies "2" no matter how many times I try to explain it.. haha.
