Congrats to everyone - so many babies these last couple days! I finally have a few minutes to type out DD's birth story, so here goes...
We had a totally normal day on Tuesday. We went to lunch with my mom and grandmother, and H had a bunch of meetings and tutoring afterward. I had the urge to bake (go figure), so I ended up making muffins for the freezer. After bathing DS and getting him to bed, I cleaned a little and finally sat down at 9:45, at which point I felt really uncomfortable. I figured it was just from sitting on the couch, so I told H I was just going to go to bed. He came up to check on me, and I was on all fours on the floor (still insisting that I was probably just having really intense BH or something). I called my mom and told her that she may need to come get DS, but it wasn't urgent (she lives an hour away). I decided to take a shower, and by the time I got out I was having really frequent contractions. I also threw up a ton, and suddenly realized that I was probably really in labor. I downloaded a timing app on my phone (seriously - I wasn't even that prepared) and they were two minutes apart. I called my OB, and he told me to leave the house immediately. Luckily, my mom (who was obviously less in denial than I was) already decided to come get DS, and she was on her way.
We had to meet my mom at the ER, and I felt terrible because DS was getting really freaked out. He didn't cry, but he kept asking "mommy ok?" and wanting to hug me (and then getting scared). My mom came and got him just as a resident checked my dilation. I was at 6 cm, and I immediately asked for the epidural. I kissed DS goodbye, and they wheeled me up to L&D.
Luckily my hospital does the "fast pass," so I was in a room almost immediately. The anesthesiologist did the epidural, and my doctor came in to check my dilation once it started to work - I was at 8 cm. By that point, it was about 1:30 AM. My OB sat and chatted with us for a bit, and checked me occasionally. I was at 9 cm quickly, and he decided to break my water. At 2:43 I was ready to push, and by 2:49 she was out!
Luckily I only had a small tear, and we got to do skin to skin while they sewed me up and for about an hour after. She weighs 8 lb. 2 oz., and is 19 inches long. She is nursing like a champ and we are all totally in love with her. Even after all of the reassuring test results after the CVS, it's such a relief to have her here. H is so sweet with his little girl, and DS is just showering her with affection - he wants to kiss her and tuck her in, but he does keep patting her and saying "good boy" like he does to the dogs. It's the thought that counts, I guess!
We are scheduled to head home this evening...a whole new adventure going from 1 to 2! Thank you all so much for your kind words!!
