DH and his hurt feelings...

My mom just mentioned how much she'd like to go to Disneyland with me and Nicky.  We can't afford it (airfare, hotel, tickets, etc PLUS the crappy Canadian dollar), so she offered to pay (this is still kind of hypothetical, but I know she really wants to).  My dad might want to come too, so we'd all cram into one room. She said that she's willing to pay for me and Nicky and we'll all share a hotel room.  DH hates Disneyland, so I said he'd be happy to stay home.  she said good, because if he came we'd need two hotel rooms.  So in that case we'd have to pay for DH and another room for the three of us.

I told DH thinking he'd be excited that Nicky and I could go to Disneyland for free, but he was really hurt.  I can't really blame him because he feels like he's not invited, but shouldn't he just be happy that Nicky and I get to go?  Money's really tight for us so this is literally the only way we'd be able to go.  He hates Disneyland anyway, so shouldn't he be happy?  How can I get him to see that this is a good thing?

He may hate it but it will be the first time he gets to see his kid experience it. Not to mention instead of with you and him but with his in laws getting to experience. I got to say I get both sides, cuz free is huge in that situation.

I think you should confront him and ask him what really is the part that upsets him.

colinsfebmommy, Thanks for the advice. We talked it over and he apologized for overreacting and I apologized for springing it on him without prior discussion. He said that the part that hurt his feelings was that I never asked him if he wanted to come, just took him entirely out of the equation. Fair enough, I should have asked him if he wanted to come or not (even though I knew the answer). So we're all good now

It's still hypothetical a this point.  My mom has my sister and her DH and three kids (ages 5 mos - 15 years) staying with them for another week and it's stressful/tiring for her.  So I'm not going to bring it up again until after heir house guests leave and they've had a chance to breathe.  But I reallyreallyreally want to go!  Five years ago my parents helped my sister and her kids out with a trip to Disneyland, so I'm hopeful that they'll do the same for us.  On a related note, Nicky saw a picture of Disneyland today and said "I want to go to Nicky Mouse Land!"
