TL;DR Ce.cilia Gr.ace was born 08/25 via emergency c-section after an almost 48 hour induction where I pushed for 3 hours. She weighed 8 pounds 14 ounces, was 21 inches, and had a 14.5 inch head circumference. We're both doing well and still in the hospital.
I was admitted on 08/23 at 7:30 am to begin the induction process. It was a pretty slow and boring first day. I was about 2cm dilated and 80% effaces when I was admitted. We mostly watched Netflix and sat around. I did 3 separate doses of cytotec, but they had very little of a response. At the end if the day they decided to use the foley catheter. Once that was inserted I was also started on some low dose pitocin and given an ambien "to help me sleep. The foley caused major cramping and I barely slept.
Woke up on 08/24 and wasn't checked until about 10:00am I was 6cm and almost completely effaced. Removed the foley and increased the pit. They also broke my water and discovered that baby had already pooped so we were going to need her to be checked right away at birth and possibly suctioned out. I contracted regularly for the next few hours and make it to 9cm and fully effaced at 1:00pm. After that things got wonky. I labored in a variety of positions. I was checked many times throughout the afternoon and stayed at 9cm due to small portions of my cervix being uncooperative. At this point I was offered an option for moving forward. Continue to power through, but significantly increase pitocin and place an internal monitor or do this after getting an epidural to help reduce my tension. I choose to get the epidural at this point as I'd been laboring all day and was exhausted.
Epidural was placed after 7:00pm and plan moved forward, I labored for a few more hours and then one of the doctors came in. She had me push through the small side piece of cervix still remaining and turned baby some since she looked like she was sunny side up. We were able to get her past that and then I pushed for about 3 hours. Big nothing. Baby girls head was stuck in my pelvic bones and not coming out. So I ended up with an emergency cesarian and baby girl Ce.cilia Gra.ce was born at 1:30 am on 08/25. She weighed in at 8lbs 14oz and was 21 inches long. She came out crying and perfect.
We've had a few complications since then, but are both doing well. They've been monitoring me a bunch because I lost more blood than they like during the section. I've also had an allergic reaction to some gel that was used on the probe during the induction. It looks like I have giant burns on my stomach. I also have something similar going on on my butt but we have no clue what its from!! Baby girl is being watched for jaundice and has close to borderline for percentage of what they want her to loose. I'm creating colostrum, just not sure it's enough for what she needs. So I breastfeed her for about 15 minutes total and then I pump and give her the small amount I get from that. One of my nipples is cracked and sore:( She had blood drawn again this morning and I'm just waiting to hear back on if they want to do any treatment for the jaundice or just keep an eye on it.
MH was so wonderful through everything and has been wonderful afterwards too. It's so amazing watching him with her and seeing how much he already loves her. He says the labor and c-section were really hard for him because he felt like he really could do nothing to help. So now he brings her to me to feed her, changes her, hold her,s and swaddles her. I feel like we're going to make a great team and I look forward to getting into a rhythm when we get home with her.
