I wore the hospital gown for L&D and the first 12ish hours after she was born. Then I showered and put on my clothes. I won't take yoga pants this time. It was terrible having to pull them down frequently for the nurses to check my bleeding the next day. Plus needing to changing the pads and ice packs so often. I switched to a comfy black cotton nightgown and was a much happier person. I will take another gown like that one; loose, easy nursing access, and dark to hide any stains. Plus a robe and slippers. I went home in a pair of maternity pajama pants and t-shirt.

I found a modest nursing nightgown on Amazon that I'm going to order, and I'm packing a short bathrobe to go over it. I also am taking yoga pants, nursing tanks, and my pregnancy hoodie.
I know it's still a little early, but I need to start thinking of this stuff so that I can go shopping and start preparing for whenever my baby wants to make his appearance. What kind of nightgown/outfit do you plan on packing for after birth? I have been looking online for something loose and comfy, something that can be unbuttoned for nursing, and that doesn't look like something a 90-year-old would wear. I haven't found anything yet, but I might have to go check at Marshall's or someplace like that.
Bolded- That may be impossible to find, in my experience. With my past babies (and this time around) I will pack the comfiest yoga pants/sweatpants I have, a few nursing tanks, and looser fitting tshirts/long sleeve T's, a comfy hoodie or cardigan, slippers, and something slightly "nicer" for going home (if it's warm enough maybe a sundress and sweater). I'll also have several pair of old undoes I don't care too much about. I like to wear them with the hospital mesh panties. I have never been comfortable in nightgowns or night shirts- I like having something on my legs. And wearing pants hasn't gotten in the way for nurses to check my bleeding etc in the days post partum.

I'm bringing a velour robe to wear throughout my time there if it gets chilly. Besides that, i'm just going to wear the hospital gown so I don't ruin my own clothes. After giving birth I plan on changing into a nursing tank while i'm in bed. To go home i'll probably wear a maxi dress.
I have a nursing nightgown that I'll probably wear. And some maternity shorts to help contain the diaper. Don't over think it, you just want to be comfortable

I had a comfy nursing gown that I liked. Just remember when buying nursing tops and gowns that your boobs may be bigger than you expect right after birth, so stretchy fabrics and not too tight sizes are your friend. If you end up with a C-section (which is not always known when you pack your bag), having at least one gown in your bag may be preferable to all yoga pants, etc. I was able to wear soft exercise/yoga pants after the first couple of days, but in the hospital, they are constantly checking your stitches and easy access is nice.
I wore a pair of maternity jeans and a nursing top home from the hospital.
I'm going to get one of the pretty pretty nursing gowns to take with me just in case we have to stay a little bit. I'll also bring loose yoga pants and baggy sweats. I don't own and musing tanks and since I keep seeing them mentioned I will look into getting some before May gets here. Flip flops too. Can't forget those!
I just wore a gown with my boys for afterwards and had a robe and slip on slippers.. I didn't have mesh underwear, still have no clue what they are, so I just wore my reg underwear. I wore just stretchy pants and a shirt home with my first and I think maternity blue jeans with my second and a sweater. I didn't have stitches so I don't remember clothes bothering me. I also don't remember bleeding heavy, nothing a regular super maxi wouldn't work, I brought my own, I hate the hospital ones.
This time I'll do the same but my coming home outfit will prob be yoga pants or a sundress because it will be warm.

I stayed in the hospital gown the entire time I was in the hospital with my first. 6 days worth of gowns. I ended up having a c-section and the gown was just comfortable and loose-fitting on my abdomen. Plus, the blood. Oh lord the blood. I would have ruined lots of clothing.

I received a Maternity nightgown as a gift from my Mom at my Baby shower for Baby #1
I purchased a new one when I was pregnant with Baby #2.
I am planning to bring both of those, though I just needed one when I was in the hospital both times. First day after labor was mostly spent in the hospital gown and the next day I wore the nightgown. It has easy access for nursing and has a robe for when there are visitors. Next day I plan to be going home (unless I need a "C") and I will probably wear comfy pants with a comfy shirt and a light jacket.

Reading through all of these posts has caused me to think of some things I forgot. So in addition to the black yoga pants, nursing tanks, and zipper hoodie to wear post-partum, I also plan on bringing a couple of large t-shirts and a jersey skirt or dress in case I'm too bleedy/stitched-up for pants.
Non-clothes-wise, I'll take a bunch of slipper socks, flip-flops, my own towel and toiletries, and makeup. And (okay, flame me for saying this), I'll probably also bring my blow dryer. I have lots of hair, and hospitals are cold.
