I know it's still a little early, but I need to start thinking of this stuff so that I can go shopping and start preparing for whenever my baby wants to make his appearance. What kind of nightgown/outfit do you plan on packing for after birth? I have been looking online for something loose and comfy, something that can be unbuttoned for nursing, and that doesn't look like something a 90-year-old would wear. I haven't found anything yet, but I might have to go check at Marshall's or someplace like that.

I was thinking of getting some sort of a sleep shirt (and a robe to keep me modest for visitors). I only say this because I doubt I will want to put pants on right away after. But knowing me I will probably pack a few different things to choose from because I'm always changing my mind. I haven't come across anything yet that I really like either and I don't really know what size to get.
I'm planning to bring the same kind of clothes I wore after DD was born: yoga pants, nursing tanks, a button up sweater and slipper socks. I brought clothes that I was ok getting stained. I'm thinking about bringing a robe and/or a skirt this time, though I didn't really need it last time. It's nice to have choices but I really prefer to pack lightly.
I was thinking a button down night shirt too and some big cotton granny pants. I have been told to take lots of warm socks and slip on slippers so you don't have to bend to put them on. I'm planning on buying the night shirt really big so that it's not clingy and uncomfortable and taking more than one because it will be annoying if I only take one and get peed/pooped/sick up on and can't change. I'm just going on my Mums recommendations and its been 26years since she last gave birth so any other suggestions are welcome.
While I'm in labor I wear their gown and socks. I don't want my stuff getting stained and yucky. After labor and a shower, I like to have those button down sleep shirts in a bigger size to easily breast feed. But I will still use the hospital mesh underwear because the bleeding is heavy and regular panties just don't cut it. I usually bring a pack of those with me home also. And then really comfy socks that will keep me warm since the hospital is cold. My go home outfit is usually a flower, loose dress of some kind.

I just prefer to wear the hospital gown during the duration of my stay. After the pee and blood accidents that occurred, I definitely plan to go that route again.
The day I actually left the hospital I wore yoga pants and a maternity top. I had a nursing tank on underneath I do believe.
I got a gown/robe combo from motherhood maternity that was perfect. If I can find it, I'll be wearing that again. If not, I'll be buying something similar. To leave the hospital, I'll be in a loose maxi dress type of outfit.
I plan on laboring and delivering in their robe, and then taking some black yoga pants, nursing tanks, and a zipper hoodie to hang out in while I'm still at the hospital. I haven't thought of a going home outfit yet, though - that will depend on the weather. Early May in Michigan could be 40 or 70...
With DD I had a c-section and wore 2 gowns one normal and one backwards. There were a lot of incision checks and I had a reaction to the morphine pump that caused me to sweat though everything for 24 hours and I think I changed them every hour, because they were soaking. I wore a maxi dress home, hoping its warm enough to do that again, I am in NH now and the weather is unpredictable and last May it was freezing.
I had a pair of loose pajamas that I wore over a nursing tank with my other kids. I'll do that again in case we end up at the hospital. At the birthing center I'll probably take a jersey skirt with a nursing tank and light cardigan to wear home

This, why ruin my clothes? I did take a "pretty" robe for when visitors came. Also, nursing was much easier in the hospital gown since I could just unsnap a shoulder. I really liked having super comfy clothes to wear home, I can't imagine trying to wear something with a waistband.
Loose, fold-over yoga or pajama pants and nursing tanks. If you do yoga pants, just make sure they're not tight, because you will be wearing the phone book pads, and those would be visible through tight pants. I have a really loose cropped pair that worked well last time, though.

After I was able to shower, I wore this for the duration of my stay. It was comfy, easy to nurse in, and had a robe if I wanted to cover up for visitors.
Our ride home is two miles. If I really feel like changing, I'll probably throw on my maternity yoga pants and a tank.
Remember that it takes a whle for the belly to go back down. When you leave the hospital, you'll probably look roughly about what you do now, or a couple weeks ago.
I used the hospital gowns because I had expected to be d/c from my birth center ~12 hours after birth and had nursing tops and maternity pants prepared. Then the day we left I wore a mat/nursing top and my mat jeans (over the belly, my incision was too uncomfortable for anything below the belly) I might look for cute nursing pjs this time, I have a new robe I will bring and mat pants or shorts (weather) and a mat/nursing top.
In the hosp I was half naked due to nursing like half the time. I didn't cover up (no family or friends visiting) and really only did if staff walked in but half of them already saw... Everything.
ETA my hosp gowns had (essentially) boob holes but many times I still needed to take a side off then the other would slip...
OH!!! This reminds me! I need to get the birthing tiara!
I joked with my friends that I wanted to wear a tiara while birthing the monster. I figured I am going to be as fucking fabulous as possible. So as a joke, a friend gave me one at my shower. Well, I wore that damn thing in the hospital the entire time after he was actually born.
So my friends and I started passing it around to each other as a gift at each others shower. That tiara has probably seen about 10 births. I have to figure out who was the last to have it.

This was my wardrobe after DS was born as well. I had a magnesium drip for 24 hours after birth (and a catheter...ugh) due to pre-eclampsia and I wasn't allowed to get out of bed. I still had a nurse help me change into a nursing tank and pants just to feel a little more normal. I brought a robe, but I don't think I really used it. Slippers and/or slipper socks are a must!

A robe I don't care about and a nursing tank. I will be wearing the glamorous mesh panties. I've worn the same robe with my last two kids. It's weird that I'm wearing the same thing in all of my hospital pictures but unless I can find another robe for dirt cheap, it will have to be.
I don't understand how people put pants on right after birth, but to each their own I guess. I will say though, if you end up with a stitched up vag, you are required to roll over and show the nurse fairly often. I think that's easier to do when you aren't wearing pants. And there's so much blood! I would have ruined pants for sure.

This is me. With DS I never changed into my own clothes until we were headed home....it just didn't seem to make sense to me to mess up my own stuff when they brought me a couple of clean gowns regularly anyway. They were easy enough to have on in terms of BFing too. I didn't bleed super heavily or anything out of the usual, but I did bleed that's for sure....the hospital mesh unds were helpful to have for that reason as well.
Honesty, I didn't use most of the stuff I packed since our whole experience was relatively quick in comparison to some. I'll likely pack lightly this time as well. Toiletries, my going-home outfit (a sundress probably....that's what I wore home last time), maybe my boppy and the usual chargers, camera, misc. electronics stuf will be about it.

I packed an oversized t shirt, a pair of baggy sweats, and ages pairs of extremely comfortable boy shorts. When they finally let me get up and change, I felt so much better when I didn't have to be stuck in that hospital gown. I also wore a cami under the huge tee shirt to make breast feeding easier.
This is such a great thread to read, I haven't even given this a second thought. I sort of just thought you wore the hospital gown, which is looks like a lot of you do. onceinlovewithamy, that looks perfect, I might get that for myself!
I did think about a going home outfit, I will probably wear a cotton maxi dress if it's warm enough. I know a lot of people said yoga pants but I feel like that might be uncomfortable for me since they're a tighter fit.
Another vote for the giant hospital panties! I forgot about those.
I was thinking for the ladies who plan to wear the hospital gown, I would still suggest packing a nursing top/soft nursing bra (or a soft regular bra if you don't plan to breastfeed) because those hospital gowns are a bit rough and I can't imagine not having any breast support. Ouch!
PP reminded me... Wear their gowns... Those sweats are INSANE! You'd be sitting there fine and dandy then suddenly you are soaked with sweat and need a new gown. Much better to make the hosp do laundry than you...

I didn't think about this at all when I had DD, so I spent the whole time in hospital gowns. Not fun. I will probably be packing some nursing tops and yoga pants.

I wore the hospital gown. There were definitely stains that first day. I brought yoga pants and a tee to go home in. Plans are the same for this go round.
