I think it depends. I have had different experiences with my 2 kids.

DS just woke up one morning with teeth poking through. He never gave any indications that he was teething.

DD gave signs she was teething and then eventually her bottoms gums were white-ish. Nothing that was distinguishable as teeth, but white while the rest of her gums were still pink/red. I would say it took about a week for the tooth to actually break through. And maybe a month for it to be fully out.

Same here. This past week it has intensified. He is super crabby, rosy cheeks, tons of poops, pulling on ears, and cannot keep his hands out of his mouth. I feel so bad.

I posted this in the teeth thread as well, but everything I have read said the tooth should poke through after a few days of the tell tale signs. Well it isn't and I feel like I have been lied to.

How long do you try a food before you give up on it? If your kid doesn't like it first try and will not open their mouth, do you try something else or call it a day? Do you try the same food again later on or try a new food?

How do I know when DS is messing with us at night rather than actually needs something? Teething is not helping, but I feel so lost about his sleep lately. He went from 1-2 wake ups to 3-4 and we have been getting up to feed him each time because, honestly, it is easiest to just feed him back to sleep. We have tried pacifier or rocking him back to sleep, but he is usually up again within a few minutes. Should we just ride the storm out until his teeth are in, or is it time for some kind of sleep training?

So um, I have never had to trim DD's toe nails, is this crazy? I have to trim per finger nails ALL THE TIME. I know that my toe nails grow slower, but that much slower? Am I making up stuff to freak out about, or is this really weird?

I cycle between 2 foods a week. If DS won't eat something, I will try the other one the next night and then go back to the original on night 3, etc. I usually tried to offer DD something 8-12x before I gave up. Even at two, she will usually reject new foods several times before she actually eats them.

DD naturally wanted to stop eating in the middle of the night so there isn't anything specific I did but you could try reducing what you feed her in the middle of the night for a few nights and then just soothing her if she wakes up.

We do BLW, so I just put the food on the tray and when she starts fussing and wants to get down I end the session. I cycle through the same 2/3 foods for a week and then I move on to another 2/3 foods. This week it's cereal (on a preloaded spoon), pasta and toast. Last week was avocado and carrot.

Reduce the amount in the bottle till it's nothing.

I would just try intermittently if they are very adverse to any one food. LO wasn't crazy about peas at first but after 2-3 feedings, he doesn't "complain". I think about it like I do any adult that doesn't like something- try it out here and there to see if your tastes have changed.

I've only had to trim her big toenails, but not really the rest of them. But yes, her finfingernails drive me crazy!

For us, the cry is different. It's fussy and not consistent (not a hard cry) he just wants comfort and can self-soothe to bed. If he's hungry or hurting, the cry is harder and consistent. And we only know this from offering to feed over and over again during wakes and judging by his quickness to latch and how he eats.

We are letting him CIO only when LO doesn't seem to be teething/sick. If he is crying for 5 minutes and it's been less than 4 hours since he ate, H rocks him. If it's been about 4+ hours since he ate and he's crying (not just fussing), then I feed him.

And if he's waking in the night, he's waking in the night. We ride each night out as it comes. There will be a time when he doesn't wake at all for us and that's going to happen sooner than we know.

Yup... pretty much exactly. This week was the first time he had smaller toenails that needed cutting. It's surprising to me!

My little guy kind of weaned himself. He just quit waking up. Once I knew he could STTN of he woke up I'd give him much less than i normally would have. So instead of a 6oz bottle I'd only give him 3 or 4. Just enough to settle him. Then decreased again to 2. He'd STTN for like 2 weeks then wake up again for a couple days. Then sleep, then wake up. Eventually he's just quit waking up.

LO literally came out needing her fingers and big toes trimmed. Her fingernails need it practically daily. Just this week I noticed that her other toes could use their first trim. I thought that was freakish but I guess not!
