How to tell LO's they are getting a sibling

Next week we will have our NT scan and if all goes well we will start telling people.  Everytime I think of telling my DD she is getting a sibling I cry.  How do you tell her (she turned 2 in May)?  I know she probably won't understand or even care but it hurts my heart that it won't be just us anymore!

My 3 year old asked if I had a baby in my belly because "it's getting big." I firmly denied it until several weeks later. We read her the Daniel Tiger book about getting a new baby and then we told her. Now she tells everyone....

Similar situation, DS turned two in late April. We talk about there being a baby in my tummy and he looks under my shirt. So the gears are turning.

Told our 2 year old DS and he doesn't quite get it. He likes to wrestle and kick so I have to keep reminding him to be gentle w my belly with baby. He's not getting it but he does sometimes say "nice" when we talk about baby, some friends have little ones so he is knowd to be nice and gentle with them. We'll see as he gets older/I get bigger.

For the record, we are happy and this was planned and I know this is the greatest gift I can give her. But pregnancy hormones are real - ha! I think I will get her a book!

I just keep telling her she will be a big sister and there is a baby in my belly. She has no idea. Won't I am sure for a while. I plan to just keep talking about it and get a book we can read after our NT scan.

DD was 18 months when we told family/friends. We also told her there was a baby in my belly. She didn't "get it" until I was showing. We got her "I'm a Big Sister" book and read it a lot as his arrival came closer (she was 2 when he was born). It also helped that other people at the babysitter and family members had babies while I was pregnant. She got to see their bellies growing then the babies when they were newborns.

As for now, we haven't told her yet -- she'll be 4 in December -- and she would shout it from the rooftops! She will find out just before we announce this weekend

We've been telling Elena she's getting a sibling since we found out. She's 13 months now, so I don't think she'll really understand until boom, there's a baby.

One of her preschool teachers is also pregnant, due in Feb, so she'll probably think everyone is pregnant all the time.

DS turned 2 this summer. I've been showing him youtube videos of newborns and toddlers meeting newborns. He likes it.

My husband and I jokingly say "sorry, sucka" to him when we are talking about how things will change when #2 arrives.

After we are out to family I'll get a book or two, just don't want those around the house just yet.

We talk about the baby but DS has no clue. He's only 16 months right now.
I'm hoping that once my belly gets bigger and he's a few months older that he'll start to get it if we talk about the baby and get him a big brother book. He's been around a lot of babies at play group, is quite fascinated by them, and knows to be gentle with babies but since he'll be just under 2 when this one arrives I'm not sure he'll really get it until we bring the baby home to stay.
