Nothing too interesting this week for me, either.
QOTW: The Burkini ban is overt religious intolerance, no question. Completely outrageous. I do think the whole question about burkas and similar is really challenging, or it is for me anyway. On one hand, I definitely agree that a woman should be able to wear whatever she wants, but the more restrictive versions are definitely oppressive.
AW/Vents/ Encounters this week:None more than normal. I live in a highly Catholic area and I have my normal day to day head shaking. I am very open to anybody believing whatever they want and worship whatever god they choose, as long as you are not an ass about it. Sometimes I feel like a side show that "fascinate" people.
QOTW: What are your thoughts on France's burkini ban? I don't get it. I haven't been following this topic, but why ban it? What is the purpose? If a woman wants (or needs to based on a religion they believe in) so what? Doesn't bother me. I am very self conscious of my body, maybe I should get one.
QOTW: I think the ban is ridiculous. I mean, I personally think clothing required by a religion, regardless of the religion, can definitely be oppressive, especially if the religion promotes the idea that people have free will. Like, if the person wearing the religious garb are only doing it b/c they're supposed to, that sucks, but I'm not going to fault someone who chooses to follow those guidelines. To force a woman to wear anything, whether it's to completely cover her or expose her and anything in between, is sheer douchebaggery. And for these men to claim they're acting on a woman's behalf, UGH, they need to get off their high horses.
