Squishy622, I feel like that's because surviving the first year with twins feels like summitting a mountain.
My daughter's first word is not mama, or dada, or baba. No no. It is most definitely "Guh!" Very clearly directed and only used to refer to my big dumb dog, Gus.

Hi ladies! Just want to brag that I scored these outfits for $2.88 total this weekend because I win at couponing! If these kids are girls I'll have to throw some headbands on them. But they were too cute to pass up. I'm also obsessed with matching outfits. I figure these babies will only let me dress them the same for so long so I'm going to take advantage of it while they're small and not opinionated haha.
mustloveerica Cute! You could also put frilly butt pants on girls or skirts. My first though regarding matching outfits: put bibs on them too so they don't ruin the matching with spit up.
bocaburger Nope, you're not a terrible mom. You can only do so much, so do what is most important in the moment and the babies can take turns. Alternatively, you could try to carry one while you take care of the other, but it might be hard to reach the second baby while you're carrying the first in a carrier or sling or something. My arms never seemed long enough. Sometimes I had success with putting them in their rockers and rocking them with a food while I did something else with my hands, but that was also mixed success.
I had times when both of them were screaming like that and I just told them "mama has to pee so she can take care of you" or "mama can't make bottles any faster... you'll just have to wait."
Aw bocaburger, it'll be ok! Keep talking and smiling (through gritted teeth sometimes!) and they'll be soothed by your voice eventually! Two hands doesn't seem like enough, I know! As difficult as it is at the start, It'll be so much easier than a singleton as they get older: they get used to taking turns and being patient. But I remember that feeling so so well, it was awful but it gets better! I promise!
Hey guys - random question: I'm going in for a Doppler check at the MFM on Tuesday because I had a freak out. Will they be able to hear both HBs? I'll be 16+3.
Based on the fact that we didn't even find out until the anatomy scan at 20 weeks that we had twins, after Doppler checks at my 12, 16, and 20 week midwife appts, I'd say it'll be tough to distinctly find both heartbeats without an ultrasound.

This is what I was afraid of. She said I couldn't have an u/s unless I was bleeding or had pelvic pain....I wish I had said yes. Hopefully since we know it's two, maybe that will help? If she can't, I'll demand an u/s since my concern is what's bringing me there in the first place.
I'm sorry to hear that and hope everything is perfectly fine! Maybe you'll get lucky and she'll find both easily or she'll do a quick ultrasound to help ease your worries. Good luck!

They have actually never used the Doppler on me except the one time I had an NST because someone was being difficult. Even at that point, they had trouble finding both of them. Don't freak out if she struggles finding one at first. Maybe she'll decide you need a quick ultrasound anyway.

I had an appointment at either 14 or 16 weeks (I forget) where they found both heartbeats on doppler.

can you call Monday and said you had some spotting over the weekend and ask for the u/s again? My OB always checked hbs with an ultrasound at every appt.
@wineandcupcakes, it is totally possible depending on position. They only ever used a Doppler on me once, and they struggled to find them both. Anterior placentas can make that harder too. It might take a bit but I can't imagine a doctor sending you home if they can't find both?

@feegan getting kids back in the car at the grocery store I do what you do or I park right next to the cart return. I guess thinking about it i usually both. When cars are parked too close I open the trunk get the stroller ready, get the kids out and put them in the trunk (suv) with the door open and then put kids in the stroller. I have an almost 3 year old so he helps a lot with entertaining the second baby while im buckling in the first.
But I really want to know the answer to this question in all seriousness. And you put the kids in the stroller AND pull around a cart at the grocery store?
@feegan I don't have personal experience with this yet but I think you just have to do the best you can given the circumstances! It's not like you are leaving them completely unattended and unprotected, especially if you lock the car when you bring the cart back. And despite what TV would have us believe there are not creeps around every corner just waiting to steal your kids.
@feegan I park next to the cart corral if possible. I park the stroller by the cart corral next to my car or at the corner of the back of the car behind another car that is unoccupied since that car won't move and it keeps the stroller out of the traffic lane. Whether I load groceries or babies first depends on the weather, but if it's not too hot in the car I'll unload the babies first and talk to them through the back of the car as I load groceries. Then I'll close the back and leave the side doors open while I put the cart back. Once the weather is cooler I'll close the doors. I won't lock the car to make sure I don't lock myself out (higher probability than someone trying to steal my kids).
Oh @feegan, I've had this discussion with others before. MIL couldn't believe I was ok leaving my kids in the car while I ran into my sister's house to take out the garbage. Society has gotten a little too crazy about leaving kids unattended, IMO.
I try to park next to the cart return or a curb whenever possible and leave myself space for the stroller on the side without other cars. Sometimes that means I park like a jerk and I really don't care. I put one kid in on the side with more space while I bring the stroller or cart as close to me as possible. If I can't pull this off, I either put the stroller/cart on the sidewalk in front of the car or as close to the trunk with the hatch open as I can. I keep my double umbrella stroller in the car and I hit all three of the wheel locks- I figure it will at least slow someone else down. I'm more concerned someone will back their car into the cart, so I prioritize accordingly.
I have also grabbed both kids and climbed into the car through my trunk (LOVE stow & go!), or grabbed both kids and opened one door, sat A (less mobile) on the floor in front of me while I buckled in W, closed the door and run around the car to pull him over to the other side. In both cases it was raining, so I was trying to keep everyone dry, but it works.
I unload my cart, then my kids, then lock the car and put the cart away. I also pee without children in my lap, shower when they are sleeping, and don't turn on the monitor for at least 15 minutes after putting them to bed and we've all survived their being "unattended" for a few minutes. (Can you read my eyeroll?) For real though, I did run into the pharmacy to pick up an rx with them in the car when they were newborns and napping in December. I maintain the better parenting decision was to leave them safe and warm for 5 minutes than drag them out in the cold, but I know not everyone agrees (I was not happy about it, and its not a regular thing, but it happened and FYI in Illinois unless they are in real physical danger like excessive heat or leaving your car sitting in traffic, its ok to leave them for 10 minutes in the car.)
As far as stealing your kids... I think they are actually more at risk playing in a public park (where I've had a major PPA freak out over child abduction) or other crowded location. Your locked parked car while you run a cart somewhere all within sight seems like a poor target.

Agreed that people get too paranoid about unattended kids. I'm more afraid of someone overreacting and calling the police than my kids being unsafe in the car.
I also figure no one is going to get very far very fast with 1-2 kids, possibly in a crappy stroller, in tow so I can probably catch them. Mama bear would not be merciful if anyone tried to do anything to my babies.
But I really want to know the answer to this question in all seriousness. And you put the kids in the stroller AND pull around a cart at the grocery store?
Yup, it's the only way to shop with kids in tow if the double cart isn't an option.
I'm hoping we hear from others on this soon.
I have never done this. I purposefully do as much shopping as possible at stores where all carts are doubles (Costco & Aldi FTW!) and at all other stores I wear one or both rather than pull a stroller. OR if its a super fast trip, I just take the stroller and a reusable shopping bag.
I've also seen a lot of people using the Buggy Bench lately. I refuse to buy another thing that has to live in my van.

Oh but has anyone tried the Itzy Ritzy Shopping Cart Cover? Its supposed to change a single seat to a double, but I'm trying not to give into my germaphobe ILs.
Depends on whether the twins were in the double stroller or the cart. If they were in the double stroller I loaded the kids into the car and put the stroller away before loading groceries. We are in Texas, I start the car so there is air before returning the cart which is at most two cars away or across the aisle. I worry a little about someone stealing the car with the babies in it but who wants a minivan with screaming children in it? They won't make it far before abandoning it.
If the kids are in the cart, I'll load the groceries, then load the children and then return the cart. I do the kids first in the stroller because the Chance is higher the stroller or the cart will get run into with two things in the parking lot.
We park in the driveway so I have also left one child buckled in the car while carrying the other to/from the house before they could walk reliably. I think some of the omg you can't leave a child unattended for even a second is ridiculous.
Also, if there isn't enough space on either side of the car for the stroller when loading, I'll park the stroller behind the van with the trunk open and load them in back there.
P.s. Was too lazy to edit previous post in order to add more thoughts.

Totally unrelated but I thought this was a funny story that you all may get a laugh at. So i will start with saying that the babies are tomorrow 7 weeks old and since they are early still quite small at 6.5 lbs and 8.5 lbs. So yesterday we took the babies to a tourist town in France. We got a decent amout of looks with our double stroller. Maybe more then usual, but here not alot of people usually talk to you about the babies but you can overhear some conversations about them sometimes. Anyway it was bottle time so we found a nice shaded place in the city centre to feed them. Then it started. Once the babies were out and on full display so many people were stopping and looking and watching and asking questions. Always the normal queations and comments, so cute, so small how old are they and what not. It was kinda embarrassing to be put on display like that. And all you can do is smile and answer their questions. Anyway. The funniest bit was that at 2 different occasions tourist groups of like 10-15 people stopped and watched. I mean these were groups with the leader holding their flag or umbrella or whatever to lead so people could follow. The tour guide stopped the tour and was asking questions like we were part of the tour! It was hilarious! Afterward we were saying that we should have collected money for our show of feeding babies! We may have actually collected something! Lol!
