Alright Ladies, I Need Work Advice Again

So, unfortunately, I'm leaving my coaching position after only two months.  There are things the program does (hazing, inappropriate music, unsafe practices, breaking music copyright laws) that I can't live with, and the director isn't a fan of me trying to change things up.  We're doing a mutual parting of ways.  And while I don't anticipate applying for coaching jobs right away, I want to be prepared if something comes up.  In most of the applications, it asks about "Reason for Leaving" for each position.  For the last two, I listed moving and having a second child, respectively.  But I don't know what to put for this one, and I know a two-month employment is going to raise some red flags.  Any advice on how to frame this is a positive or neutral way?

ETA: I have no idea if this is feasible or not, but I just had a thought: I've not yet been paid for this position.  I was planning on turning in my timesheet tomorrow and just getting paid for the work I've done so far.  It would come out to roughly $500 before taxes.  Can I ask for them not to pay me, and then I don't have to list this as employment?  I can say it was volunteer experience and I was just helping the team out for the summer?  I have filled out a W-4 for the job... or I could donate my payment back to the program.  I'd rather lose the money than jack up my resume forever.

I always try to be as honest as possible and so I would probably write something along the lines of "previous program involved unsafe practices." That's not necessarily positive or neutral, but a future employer should appreciate the fact that you didn't want to coach in that environment, and it may start a discussion to make sure you don't end up in another program like that again.

You don't have to list it on your resume, even if you get paid, right? If I were you I would just leave that two month hole in my resume. It's not dishonest, IMO. You can choose what to include on a resume, you just can't make up additional stuff that isn't true. When I filled out resumes and job apps back in the day, I only included info that related to the job I was applying for. Omitting other jobs seemed wise at the time.

That's a hard one, I agree with creepyeyeball I would leave it off if you think it won't cause a problem. If not maybe you can list something like "looking for new work environment"?

I wouldn't blink at someone leaving a 2 month employment off their resume, but if it does come up, I would explain that you were uncomfortable with their safety practices. It sounds like you wouldn't want to work for a team that doesn't prioritize safety anyway.

I wouldn't ask them not to pay you. I like what the other ladies have said about leaving it off your resume. DH had a job right out of college that turned out to be not at all what he expected, and he left after only 7 or 8 weeks. He has never included that position on his resume and it was never questioned or caused any issues.

Yeah, I agree--you can accept pay and still not list it or put that you left because you did not agree with team policies regarding student safety or something. If you apply for a few jobs with option B and don't hear back, you could try option a. Just be sure that if you do say "safely practices" it doesn't sound like you had to leave because you compromised student safety.

Dont give up your salary or donate it to them, especially if you think they are being unethical. If it is a small community where everyone knows everyone and they may have heard you worked there then you may need to explain what you did and why you left. But if that isn't a concern then just leave it off.

But as long as you have good references and longer records elsewhere, ecen if this reason comes up it may help you find a better job for next time.

Thank you all so much! So I am leaving it off my resume and still submitting my time sheet. I actually had an interview come up today completely out of the blue, and it actually went really well. So, I'm probably crazy, but I'll see where it goes. I still have to meet with the varsity coach (I met with the AD and AP today), so we'll see. LOL...sometimes I think I'm nuts.

Truthfully, I wouldn't want to work for anyone who didn't understand why you left this job. Those are perfectly legitimate reasons for parting ways and I, as a former dance studio director, would not consider that a negative trait in a prospective employee.
