Haven't taken BH yet, but we take LBB to a kid haircut place. It's $18 and we don't have to make an appointment. We just run him in whenever he gets scruggly, maybe every 6ish weeks? But it's in the mall, beside a play area, so if we have to wait he can play or I can shop.
We take LO to the same place that H get's his hair cut which is a salon near our house. I think it is like $12 plus tip. Last time LO was screaming like a mad man and she did a good job really quickly so I just gave her an even $20. He's had 2 haircuts. This last one was a "high and tight" military style cut so it is two months later and he still is nowhere near needing another haircut.
My mom had been taking DS to a family friend who cuts hair in a salon in her basement. It wasn't going well, she took way too long and he got antsy and cried through the whole thing.
Just this week my mom and I decided to send him to a special kids' hair cut place here in town. They have TV screens at each station, a little indoor playground that LO adored playing on during DS's cut (and for DS to play while he was waiting for his turn and to pay) and tons of other toys, etc. My mom said it was "an absolute dream" and worth every penny. The cut was $21 before tip. We will definitely be returning.
Thanks guys. Sounds like we're not too far off from average. This was W's 2nd hair cut but it had only been 2 months since the last one. Hopefully we can stretch them out a bit longer in the winter but the poor kid has been so hot and sweaty lately!
Probably need to go a little shorter next time? Just to drag it out a bit longer.
I'm lucky that MIL (who is a registered hairstylist) does it for free whenever they need it.
I have taken them to my friend's salon in town once because I want to support her local business and give them that experience too, (she does my hair and I just love going to her!) and she charged $15 for both though I think she did DD's for free that time.

We used to go to a Cookie Cutter salon for kids like this. Indoor playground, fun chairs and tv's for the cut. Bubbles to distract them. It was usually $12 before tip.

I had a bald baby when he was born, so his hair is just now getting to the point where I've thought maybe we should get it trimmed - mostly just the bangs to keep from getting in his eyes. My SIL used to do hair for a living up until just recently, so luckily, she's agreed to do DS' - I'm hoping the familiarity of his aunt cutting his hair will lessen the trauma. The only trick is arranging schedules - hoping to get his first haircut done in the next few weeks!

When DS1 got his first haircut, we took him to a special kids place for the "experience". They butchered his hair, so we never went back. We started going to a family friend who works at a salon, and got the family friend price of $10 for his cut.
Now that we've moved and have a new person (another person out of a salon whom we previously did not know), we pay $15 per cut. It adds up fast!
O has had 5 cuts done. I take him to our hairdresser. She charges $10 and I give a $5 tip because he's not really cooperative for the experience. She has a daughter a couple months older than him so she's really great with him. I think we've been going ever 6-8 weeks. She's been going shorter each time but it doesn't seem to change how often we go. I schedule his appointments online whenever he needs one.
First bang trim we went to my friend's salon and she did it for us.
Second trim we tried to go to a Children's salon but they were closed for renovations, so we stopped in a handful of regular salons until we found one that would do it. She quickly trimmed G's bangs and didn't charge us anything.
Now we just trim them on our own whenever they start getting long. I think we'll let the rest of her hair grow out for quite a long time and do trims on our own until she's old enough to want a more difficult style than I'm capable of doing myself.
Right now I take C to my moms friend. She also cuts/colors my hair. She doesn't charge me for C, but I usually leave about $5 for a tip. When he's a little older and sits still better DH will take him to uncle bill who is a barber. That will cost us about $20 +tip each trip. No family discount there.

LO has such little hair it will be forever before she has her 1st cut. DS (3) gets his hair cut by me at home (he's gone to the barber once). I also cut DHs hair (every 2 weeks for him though). Depending on style you want getting clippers/scissors can be relatively easy. Having some sort of distraction or incentive helps too.

I cut DH's, and DS1's Just put the 1/4 or 3/8 inch guard on the clippers and buzz it off. DH likes his, and I told DS1 it's a "soldier cut" like his uncle (a Marine), so he thinks he's basically a celebrity. I haven't done T's yet, but DS1 loved his first cut because I let him hold the clippers for a second.
This might be a SQ but I'm thinking I don't have to cut M's hair for a while. It's getting pretty long, but uneven. Like when I put her pony on top she still has a lot of baby hairs falling out but also pretty good length. Like if I don't put it up somehow it's all in her face. I've never been super good with my own hair and I think the H thinks I should know what to do.....
Lol this is us too. The hair DD had when she was born is SO long now, but the "new hair" that has grown as her head got bigger is no where near long enough to reach the pony. I just put the long hair in the pony and try to brush down the little hairs. Give me a sec to find a pic:)
All those little hairs in the back don't reach the pony- We did try piggies this weekend, but it took a lot to get them to stay. (This was post car seat nap)
