I wonder if I lean way back with cross cradle is that's "elevated" enough. Then again, if he's overeating, if I am better about doing him to burp and what not can I go back to my beloved cross cradle? When do they out grow the spit up again? Phew.
This also makes it hard to know if he just wants to suck, if he actually is still hungry, if he's cluster feeding, or going through a growth spurt.
It might be worth a shot. DD was having some serious gas issues when at my parents house and I think I elevate her head more when I am at home and it makes a huge difference. I do cross cradle and tend to lean back I also put an extra pillow under the boppy on the side she eats on.
I love football hold but don't understand how it's an elevated position which makes me think I'm doing it wrong. Oh well - whatever we're doing is working. I feel like I could elevate him better in cradle if I needed to.
So its almost two and I still haven't seen my bed tonight. I want to sleep as well as my husband does. I was up every hour last night. I have appointments early in the morning. Blah. I don't know what to do for this kid. He ate from both sides and has spit up a few times but is acting Hangry won't take a paci. Also has been gassy.
Dh finally got his insurance straightened out so I'm calling the pedi dentist tomorrow for this lip tie.
allonsy221b some combination of do you think he'll stay asleep & can you sleep in the rocking chair. It's whatever you think will get you the most sleep. Good luck!

I feel like all I do now is come here to complain. I should start my own "Felicia's Bitchfest Friday" thread. Of course it'd be for everyday of the week.
Ugh, the lengthy session of sleep backfired on me. LO waited 4.5hrs before eating again, I gladly fed him my engorged boobs. 2 hours later, he was rooting again, I figure maybe he didn't get enough since my capacity sucks. Well... He spat up all over me just now, projectile vomiting. Both of us needed q change of clothing. Now he's fussing and rooting again, I'm too afraid to feed him again. Breastfed babies can be overfed.
Itts not really over fed per se. It can be that you have a high supply with a lot of foremilk. So they eat and eat and eat cause they are programmed to get I a certain ambit if hindmilk. The fat in hindmilk signals their brain they are full and keeps them satisfied longer. So they eat a lot get a lot of foremilk and the often they spit up the excess foremilk. Or some babies just keep it all on and gain more than 4-7 oz a week which is fine as long as they aren't miserable with other symptoms of excess foremilk like green mucousy stools and gassy fussiness.

Thanks @amyg! I just BF him and he nursed for an hour til he fell asleep. I woke him up to nurse again til he rejected my nipple. He woke up 15mins later and rooted for more milk. I'm about to quit breastfeeding altogether. It's so disheartening to see him continuously wanting to nurse and not satiated. Any trick in getting hindmilk into his belly?

Reading thru some of your other posts to get more history here 1 it is normal and expected for baby to want to nurse over and over and over again close together in the evenings cluster feeding before bed. This eating every hour in theory helps them to tank up on the calories they need to sleep longer at night
2 if you are giving formula to top him off and not pumping then your supply goes down when you need it possibly to go down. Bottle sizes should be really small of supplementing. Read up and ck the milk calculator at kellymom.com
3 if gassy and fussy and wanting to eat all the time plus bad smelling breath and spit up you need to see dr to rule out reflux. Reflux babies often want to eat all the time to keep the acid from coming back up Into their throat and burning. If they want to eat again really soon after a feed offer the same side so they get more hindmilk
4 you mention really sore nips and baby not getting enough milk with a nipple shield. That is a sign of a bad latch weak and ineffective. Possibly shallow latch and tongue tie. This can mean baby takes in a lot of air and not a large volume of milk so they are hungry all the time and may spit up a lot. A couple visits to an ibclc lactation consultant is in order.
@amyg I am so glad you're here! I will need help getting my supply back up when I finish these stupid antibiotics.
Antibiotics don't lower supply But the underlying illness and infection that you are taking antibiotics for does a number on your body and is he usual cause for the lowered supply. Basic rules are nurse nurse nurse. Up your calories a lot. You need extra to fight off infection even if you aren't breastfeeding. And up your fluids. Your body removes the bacteria by flushing it out. Add chicken soup and Gatorade and a lot of water. For a full milk supply you need 25 oz for milk and 8 eight oz glasses of water for yourself and extra if the air is dry or it's hit or you have a temperature. So start there.

@amyg is it possible for babies to have reflux only at certain times of the day. Do they have to spit up to be refluxy? My baby has been getting super fussy after eating in the afternoon/evening. He acts like hes in pain when he burps and when you attempt to put him back on the boob he roots then screams. He burps at least 2-4x a feeding and still has horrible gas

Thank you. I've been doing everything wrong except drinking water. I had to stop nursing because I'm taking levaquin. I will follow these rules. Thank you again!

Why did you stop nursing for levaquin? It's rated L2 for safety in nursing. What kind of infection? Can you call infant risk tomorrow for more info? Hopefully they are open on Good Friday.

Possibly I would read up on reflux signs and see what other symptoms. Do you have high supply and fast let down?

All 3 doctors (family, pedi, and OB) sais not to. I have pneumonia. I can call....if I don't sleep the day away.

I would make it a priority to call and get the most up to date info on your drug in lactation. It's not a recommended drug for breastfeeding but is reasonably safe. For a very young baby it is reasonable to be cautious but you don't have to go overboard. There is timing of taking the meds and still nursing and limiting meds transfer to baby. You can read up at Lactmed and read all the answers at infant risk websites.
But do yourself a favor by calling infant risk yourself or having your husband call to make sure pump and dump is your only option. call them at 806-352-2519

I just had a dream (nightmare?) that I was 3 weeks pregnant. I woke up to DS's cries terrified that it was real and that we'd have two kids under the age of 1, not considering the fact that H and I haven't yet had sex. Phew! Haha.
I had a dream I was pregnant the other day too!! It was a nightmare lol.

For the first time EVER, DS decided to wake only once last night and not every two hours. Holy crap I am shocked. He slept from 10-6:30a and woke up only at 3.
I'm so relieved I could cry. Unfortunately I didn't get good sleep myself with bad dreams and fitful sleep. But I just hope my almost 11 week year old is (sort of) getting better at this sleep thing!
Thanks to a witching hour during which DS just wanted to scream & refused to nurse, and the subsequent exhausted nap he took after his scream fest, we are an hour behind our usual schedule tonight. On the plus side I curled up with DH on the couch and napped for 20 minutes or so.
