Personally I would hate to have to continually answer the question "Oh, is that short for Olivia?" every single time she was introduced. But I know that doesn't bother other people.

I'm just here to state my undying love for Olivia, despite its popularity. I think Liv is okay, but just be prepared if most people assume her full name is Olivia.

I love Olivia and I love Emma but I'd never use them.
Livia was the name of a Roman empress--it is classic and underused. I would want to give my daughter the option of a name that isn't a nickname. If you are seeking something less common maybe consider Livia...
I would assume it was short for something and do a massive internal eyeroll and judge the hell out of the parents if I was told that Liv was the whole name.
