Alright ladies I've been getting a lot of clogged ducts. I think it has to be because I'm pumping and I don't think the pump is able to empty my right breast. That's the side I always have issues on. I've got the pumping pals.
What else can I do to help that boob? I'm considering getting a better pump. I have a Medela PISA. Help!
Moist heat. Keep a diaper or two in your bag and grab a cup of hot water on your way to pump. The janitors will think it's weird finding diapers, but whatever..

I have the same pump, I'm an overproducer and I exclusively pump - I've had 3 clogged ducts and this is what worked for me each time. Hot rag for 1-2 min, pump both breasts like you normally would. Massage clogged side, hot rag again then hook up only the clogged side and turn that sucker up as high as you can handle, massage if you need to until you get the clog flowing - go til you feel empty, rinse, repeat if necessary.

Ditto to everything above plus try finishing off with hand expression and/or manual. My LC recommended this to me and explained each method approaches the breast differently so stimulates different ducts, even if nothing comes out, it may still move your milk!

I recommend the spectra pump. It has made a huge difference for me! I had the Pisa and it is night and day difference in terms of emptying the breast for me. I also am able to pump more milk.

Everyone has given good advice, so I'll just add what else has worked for me. A friend told me vibration is the key. I have that Clairsonic face wash thing that vibrates, so I take that in the shower with me when I have a clogged duct. Let the hot water beat on the clog for a few minutes, use the vibrations on the clog for a minute, then hand compress. Repeat until it clears. It's always worked amazing for me!
