Bahahaha. I'm really hoping for some juicy stories from you spontaneous PoMs. MH and I have spent too much time crafting a story to tell them, "When a Mommy and Daddy love each other very much, and have the money, support, and a team of experts involved..."

Spontaneous here.... no funny story, just a freak 1/400 chance that my egg split and gave us mono-di twins. I guess the only "funny" thing is that we were firmly in the 2 kids total camp and we got a surprise 3rd. Obviously now we couldn't be happier with our 3; but it did take quite a bit of adjusting to a different life than we had planned and some major, major changes that came along with that.

Nothing crazy here, double embryo transfer of two strong embryos, RE predicted it as he walked out the the transfer room.
schmella DH and I have talked about the "where do babies come from talk." We joke about saying "the mommy goes into 1 room and the daddy goes into another..."
Frozen embryo transfers for both pregnancies. At least MH and I can say that we were in the same room for most of it (if we were present at all). I'm not sure when conception actually happens in IVF.
Beautiful IVF babies here. We transferred 2 embryos in order to bolster our chances of having just one baby (100% OOP for us, so we were willing to do whatever it took to better our chances). Our fresh cycle failed, but our FET worked.
However, as a practicing Catholic, I would pray every night to The Virgin Mother and St. Jude (patron saint of hopeless causes). I like to joke that they both answered my prayers for a child. They just didn't check in with each other when they did so!

I don't know what kind of twins we have yet, and I haven't really read anything on how common identical/fraternal twins are. Anyways, spontaneous for us. My maternal grandmother was a triplet and they say it skips a generation... so, lucky us?
Our mono-di twins were conceived on our last attempt at IUI. I only had one mature follicle, but apparently it fertilized and split into two. At our 6 week ultrasound we only saw one heartbeat, but at 8 weeks we were able to see the second one.

Frozen embryo transfer of two embies. They gave us a 40% chance of twins but we wanted to boost our chances of one take home baby. We knew going into it twins were a real possibility.
We still have 7 embies on ice and plan to only transfer 1 next time.
Mine were tithe result of Clomid, Ovidrel, and TI. And a ton of monitoring appts. The cycle we conceived I had two mature follicles.
coincidentally, I do have twin uncles but they are identical. I get a bit of satisfaction telling ppl that there are twins in my family when nosing for whether or not my twins are "natural".
Ours are the result of a fresh transfer. The RE also called it before the transfer.
We're definitely taking a different approach to the where babies come from talk after MIL had H so wrapped around about unprotected sex. It seriously took months to convince him that we could stop using condoms.
My maternal great grandmother was a fraternal twin, so I usually point to that if someone asks.
LydiaDeetz fraternal twins are quite a bit more common
That's what I would assume. Does anyone know if triplets can be identical? My grandmother and her sisters all looked alike so much that the only way they're identified in photos is bc they always posed in the same order.
Spontaneous for us. Twins run on my mom's side of the family. I'm the 4th generation in a row (that we know of) that has twins. We were told they were mono-di, but I'm still not convinced they are really identical - they look too different to me. It could possibly have been two placenta's that fused. The placenta report was confusing and I haven't had my postpartum appt yet to ask my doctor to interpret it for us. We did send away buccal swabs last week for a zygosity DNA test to confirm identical or not.

It's possible it extremely rare. Fraternal twins are the type that run in families, identical are spontaneous. It's the tendency for a mother to release more than one egg that gets passed down.
FWIW, baby pics of every female in my family look almost identical, going back at least 3 generations and including my daughter. If not for writing names on pics, you couldn't tell the difference.

I do this too! My great grandmother was an ID twin and my cousin was an ID twin (sadly, his twin did not survive). So when people ask about my family history, I just say "yeah, we have twins in the family.".....even though it's total BS.
Twins run in my family like wildfire but mine are the result of a Clomid IUI w a trigger. I had 3 good follies and 3 smaller but totally viable, which resulted in a triplet pregnancy, which was reduced to twins. My RE was apparently really determined to get me really pregnant on our first try.... I was so tired of failure that I didn't question him. As crappy as that situation was, I can't say I'd do it differently.
schmella, I love her to death, but she really messed with H's head and it took me ages to unwind him. I mean, we talked about it for about a year before I quit bcp. And it was still a good 6 months before we tossed the condoms. Of course, we found out a little over a year later that we pretty much would have never had a spontaneous pregnancy.
@feegan I am fascinated by the different ratios in response to this question in your IRL group vs here.
I think it has to do with wha brings people to TCF in the first place- you see a lot of IF multiples because the IF support here is such a big part of the TCF community. If I wasn't dealing with that, I probably never would have sought out TCF but I surely would have run into someone local w twins who recommended my MoM group

I do this too. My maternal grandfather was a twin (other did not survive) and there are multiple sets of multiples in my dad's extended family. My paternal grandmother lost a set of twins and I heard about one branch of the family who had something like 12 kids total that included two sets of twins and a set of triplets.

Spontaneous, here. No family history of twins. They were conceived our first "good to go" cycle after my loss, CD 67. I'm convinced that the miscarriage/super long cycle combo had something to do with me releasing 2 eggs.
We did follistim + ovidrel + IUI. Even though we had help between both sides of the family there are SEVEN sets of twins within the past three generations, so no one in either family has really asked us if we needed help. When we tell people how many twins there are in both families we don't get all the questions.

Spontaneous fraternal twins here, no family history of twins. I think it was just an odd blip, like my ovaries were just getting the hang of starting up following a late pregnancy loss and were over-enthusiastic releasing two eggs.
My mother thinks it was because I was prescribed a high dose of folic acid and read one study on folic acid leading to multiples. But she also admitted that she thinks she "ovulated twice" a few times in her life based on experiencing ovulation pain, so maybe there is a family history aspect that just never resulted in twins.
Spontaneous. Di-di. Total surprise at our ultrasound, I thought the bf was going to fall out of his chair lol I have one set of twins in the fam, my cousins.
