Ok ladies, we ordered a foam mattress from Amazon that had awesome reviews, no one mentioned the issue we're having..
The waterproof cover it came with has all of this extra fabric creating large poofs (ok, coming up empty on how to describe it but you can see above).
We put a sheet on top and could still feel them, the sheet wasn't tight enough to even things out...
This is a safety hazard for an infant, right?! I don't want to return it and have the same thing happen with a different mattress....
I suppose we could take off the cover and just add a separate waterproof cover? Such a bummer because this was one of the reasons we thought it was a good buy.
Ps it is the right dimensions based on our crib guidelines

Winnifred hmm I see what you're saying. I'd complain to Amazon for sure. The crib sheet should keep the pad from shifting/bunching up any more which is the hazard. But I can see your concern. Bummer. That's what I hate about buying stuff online, esp big important stuff.
Yeah, that seems like a bad idea for sure. We got a waterproof foam mattress (but I don't think it has a separate waterproof cover?) and just the regular washable mattress cover, and that thing is tight like a drum. Totally understand your concern.
Thanks, littlelion & lola! My husband looked at the reviews again online and thought that some of the pictures people posted also showed these ripples. I'm not ok with it and your responses have helped affirm that!
We'll return it, I'm looking at trying a new one that is all one piece and is waterproof as well.
I'm seriously dreading trying to stuff the mattress back in it's packaging! It's foam so it came tightly rolled up but has since obviously turned into a full on mattress, I think that's a job for my DH
