I thought there was already a thread about this but searching on my mobile isn't working. If there is a thread someone is aware of can you please tag me in it?
If there isn't, I could really use some help coming up with questions to ask while touring daycare. I failed miserably at my first tour this morning.
We actually only visited one daycare and started there because my sister uses it and they are pretty good with cloth diapers and don't push formula.
We specifically asked how they handled multiples (their answer: individual people, not a set; we expected that answer), sibling discounts, how bottles/formula are handled, if we needed everything separate for them or if most/some things could come in one bag (they only have one room per age level). We didn't ask the standard questions because I knew how most everything already worked there and we just wanted to make sure that we were happy with the current location (they lost their lease in December and had 30 days to find a new place).
- Feeding and how that was handled (We basically have to bring everything) - How they communicate with parents (My place does a daily update with diapers/feeding and then they communicate with parents via email and a monthly newsletter) - Schedules and their hours. One place we toured was open from 7-6, but you were only allowed to bring your kid there for a set 9 hours per day (no flexibility). Um, no thank you. The place we chose is open from 7:30-5:30 and they don't care when you drop off/pick up -Sibling discount, OF COURSE! - Vacation policy (for when you go on vacation). Also find out when/if the center goes on vacation.
- GO WITH YOUR GUT
There was also a thread in pregnancy about this....I think....please hold.
OH, and one more piece of advice....I toured three centers. I started with the "best" - it was basically a ridiculously priced private school. I fell in love with it immediately. Then I toured a more moderately priced option and then the cheapest option. I would suggest doing your tours in the opposite order as me. Don't view the best, first. You may feel disappointed with the others, who could be perfectly fine options. It took me a while to come to terms with the fact that my babies wouldn't be doing yoga, or learning Spanish - but I'm confident they will be well-cared for.
