We are struggling. I *think* it may be slightly better with C back on Zantac, but it's too soon to really tell. Two nights ago was awesome - 2 wake ups, down from 6 - but last night was somewhere in the middle. He won't let me put him down and when I finally do get him down he's up again & again. Naps have gotten progressively worse, he's fighting them or skipping altogether and any naps he does take must be on someone now..
At this point we are just guessing at everything. Teething? Reflux? Leap 7? Adjusting to new nanny? Separation anxiety? Baby gonna baby? IDK.
Sunday night we have a call with a sleep consultant. We are desperate. We won't do CIO so I hope she's got other tricks up her sleeve.

Two nights weren't bad at 3/4 wake ups, last night was miserable from stuffy nose. Trying to put saline and then suctioning a baby's nose in the middle of the night all while trying not to get her full awake is it's ring of hell. I think it is from teething but the slightest thing causes nose issues for her. Why her crying and trying to sleep at night wouldn't work. She will literally start choking on the mucus and then it dries up and her nose is clogged. She has a narrow nasal passage but we thought she would out grow it.
Probably should take her back to the ENT but really don't feel like it.
So one foot forward, one leap back.
geners, let me know how it goes with the sleep consultant. We have discussed that idea but don't want to do any form of CIO and so seems limited. We would pay someone copious amounts of money to come here and do it in person, lol. My husband is skeptical of the phone version.

Does she has food intolerances?
She did with dairy but trailed successfully 6 weeks ago. That is all I am aware of. She had an abnormally narrow nasal passage from what we were told which contributes to it. And did have silent reflux that I think still happens every now and then. We stopped the meds for it 2 months ago.

We're here, as always. He actually had 3 good nights earlier this week. Each night he had two 3 hour stretches. It was wonderful. But of course he's been up every hour the last 2 nights. I think that's probably wonder week related. 33 more days to go of that.
It sucks because once the last WW ended he had 3 viruses almost back to back. Now he's well (for the moment) and another WW starts. I'd like to think he would sleep decent if there wasn't always something going on. I'm probably wrong, though.
I'm here, I usually have a good sleeper but that's all gone down the toilet lately. I think teeth and WW46 are to blame. I'm testing some Tylenol before bed tonight.

Here too. We were on a good track and had gotten down to 1 wakeup a night after some gentle sleep training, but then I became too lazy and inconsistent and she started waking 2-3 times instead. Then she got sick and all hell broke loose. Last night she was up from 12-3 am and refused to go back to sleep. Finally got her down by bringing her to bed with us. Giant step backward for us. Planning to work on it again after she's back to 100%.

So. Tired. Baby is sick, toddler is sick. Baby is also teething. Send all the coffee. !!!
I feel like until we are well again I won't really know where she is on the crappy sleep scale but I would imagine it is still in the hold your eyes open with toothpicks range!🙄

Struggling here too but it's not like she's ever been an amazing sleeper. She needed a good poop tonight and just got it worked out but has been writhing in pain up til this point. I'm pretty sure she's sucked my boobs inwards too. I'm totally milked dry. And tired.
Well Margs made a 4 hour stretch in her crib in the dockatot! That's the longest in a month. The rest of the night was crap (tossing from 11:30-5:30), but after getting 3 hours in a row myself, when she woke up at 11:15 I was like hot damn, I feel rested for the day lol. Hoping I can get her back in the crib after that first wake up tonight. I think she might be teething. I feel something sharp and pointy which could be her top left canine.

What gentle sleep training did you do? VERY interested in hearing!

Another pretty crappy night. We are having major leaking issues with the diapers. But I got to sleep until I shot up at 12:22. Apparently DH handled the first wake up and then I woke up wondering what was going on. She then woke up at 12:30 (I swear she has a 6th sense) and fed her but could NOT get her to sleep in her crib. I finally had her on the mattress in her room while I pumped an hour later and then brought her into bed with us. Well she was crying at 2 something, which I had never fallen back to sleep, and then almost 4. She leaked and got our bed wet so DH went to change her and then she was wide awake. He took her downstairs and stayed up with her until 5:30 and she woke up at 730. I got to go back to bed and sleep from 4-7:30. SO poor DH is struggling but I am feeling much better! I needed the sleep. I so so so wish we could get better sleep. Ugh. Fingers crossed with the dockatot!

when we have a bad night and I'm highly suspicious of teething some prophylactic tylenol often gets us a better night sleep

If I can get better confirmation of the tooth tonight then we might.

Can you go up a diaper size or use overnights? I think over size 3 diapers they just get longer and not as much bigger so you may be okay to size up for leaks.
She is in size 4 now, but we were just talking about this, whether we should go up a size. She eats so much at night it is contributing to this issue. I was thinking of those inserts as well. And we are using overnights. Kiddo is peeing. A lot! Sadly I have an unopen box of size 4 overnights that we may not use. Darn.

Double diapers?
Tried that, leaked out the leg hole. Lol! Kid is a peeing ninja! lol I am thinking the old school rubber covers for cloth diapers. May help hold it all in! lol. She has a booty on her so have to make sure the whole cheek is fully covered and that can be an issue at times. lol
Our night started out so good. C went down easily, then slept for 3 hours straight without even stirring. It was so nice to actually get to hang out with MH.
Then he woke up. And stayed up. From 11:30-2:30. Just super wide awake, not tired or fussy. Finally, finally got him back to sleep, climbed into bed and fell asleep. Not 20 min later, he's up and crying.
Wtf. We are all so tired. Need some relief, soon!!
geners Do you leave him in his crib if he's not fussing or crying? No reason not to. He could probably do without the stimulation of other people.
We do, but he woke up crying so MH picked him up... He will wake up and just be chilling in his crib some nights, and then we do leave him and he will put himself back to sleep eventually.

Just stopping in to give you all some hope. For a while I was avoiding this board because it seemed everyone else's LO was sleeping so much better than mine, either STTN or up 1-2 times a night. At that point, I was up multiple times a night, sometimes for hours on end. I was still nursing in the MOTN and often couldn't get her back down without nursing, so MH was of no help. He wanted to just let her scream which was such torture for me that I always rescued her.
Fast forward a few weeks, and she is a new child. Down by 8pm, STTN, waking at a reasonable hour. I figured out that we were doing something wrong, because my FIL, who was watching her most days, was able to get her down to nap without tears or trouble, whereas we struggled with naps too.
I started giving her a few minutes to fuss, before going back in and rubbing her back; and I stopped nursing MOTN. I had to check on her a few times the first night to reassure her, then she got it, and once she fell asleep, she stayed asleep. (And this was a baby who kick her feet and bang her fists on the mattress, she got so upset!) I realized that we were getting in her way of learning to put herself to sleep. I was causing issues in the MOTN by nursing her to sleep and staying in the room with her for so long, and MH was causing them at the start of the night, because he would go in at the first hint of her being awake and pat her back until she fell asleep.
Not sure if this is of any help to anyone else, but that's what worked for us. I don't know if this is technically CIO or not, because there was crying involved (but a lot less than a normal night!) but I like to think of it as getting out of her way to let her sleep.

I mean you just did some sleep training. Sleep training doesn't equal CIO. A lot of times people use the terms interchangeably but sleep training just means teaching your kid how to go to sleep without your help. Sometimes there's crying, sometimes not. Sounds like you did a great job and made changes that worked great for you! Glad you're getting sleep!
evenkeeled & anyone else interested... novel ahead. Hope you don't mind. It was actually really helpful to look at my notes from last night and organize/type them out!
We had our call with the sleep consultant last night. It went really well! She gave us several options to choose from that didn't involve CIO, we chose the slowest option and she then worked with us to create a plan that addresses bedtime, MOTN wakeups and naps. I feel good about it.
Overall we need to somehow shift things so he's getting more calories during the day/relying less on MOTN feedings to fill up. His daytime milk consumption is down a lot and we need to get it back up.
For bed time - the first 1-4 days, for the part of our bedtime routine where we'd let him play on the floor for a few minutes before reading to him, we are to add 10-15 seconds of him playing in his crib. Pick him up before he gets to the point of crying. I will then nurse him to sleep as usual. Days 5-10, extend that playtime in the crib by a little bit each night. Then, we will start rearranging our bedtime routine (this scares me!). Days 11-21, nurse him in another room before starting routine so we know his hunger is addressed. Then, resume normal bedtime routine in the nursery (including new playtime in crib part). I can nurse him again briefly where I normally would in the routine, but unlatch him when he's drowsy but not yet asleep. Move him to the crib. If he cries, pick him up and nurse to sleep as usual. Try to extend that time in the crib each night if he's fussing but not crying.
Days 22+, if that drowsy transfer to crib still isn't working, move bedtime up 10 min and add a second attempt to transfer while drowsy before giving in and just nursing to sleep. With time he should catch on...
MOTN - if he wakes before 3am and is crying, try soothing in crib, if that doesn't work, rock him to sleep and put him down asleep (once he catches on and can go down drowsy at bedtime, can put him back down drowsy at these MOTN wakeups). If he wakes up crying after 3 am, go ahead and feed for now, let him fall asleep then transfer to crib (also once he's able to go down drowsy at bedtime can put him down drowsy here).
For naps - all caretakers to put him in the crib for the first nap of the day. He can be asleep when we move him, until we master getting him down drowsy at night. If it doesn't take, go ahead and let him sleep on us. If he stays down but starts stirring after his first sleep cycle, immediately go in (try to catch it before he's fully awake) and try rocking him right back to sleep and put in the crib. If that doesn't take, let him finish the nap on us. If he stays up (i.e. only gets an approx. 30 min nap) need to make sure he gets a third nap that day. Naps #2 and 3 (if he takes a third) can be on us for now to ensure he doesn't wind up sleep deprived if that first nap in the crib is a struggle.
