I think if it's just small amounts, you could do it in cash and keep it under the table. Whenever our nanny babysat for us (and we did taxes, etc) we'd just pay in cash and keep it off the books. I think you can check the tax law for a household employee- there might be a minimum threshold for taxes anyway. Paging geners
If you pay her more than the IRS threshold ($2,000 for 2016) in the calendar year, you have to pay employer taxes on what you pay her (Medicare & social security, plus federal & depending on where you live, state unemployment tax). You don't have to withhold any employee taxes from what you pay her unless she wants you to (she can pay hers directly when she does her taxes if she wants). LMK if you have any questions!
