Pregnant After Loss / Pregnant After Infertility (PGAL/PAIF) check-in is posted once a week (generally on a Monday) for those of us who have unfortunately experienced a loss or a history of infertility and are now pregnant. Anyone who participates may start the thread each week.
Out of respect to all the ladies here, please add a trigger warning or spoiler if you decide to talk about any living children.
My past does not dictate my future. A previous m/c does not mean I will have another m/c.
Just because something sad is happening to another poster, does not mean it will happen to you. We all know m/c and complications are not contagious!
Hope does not make bad things happen" You cannot jinx your pregnancy by creating a ticker, getting excited, or telling someone. Live in the positive!
There is nothing I can do to prevent a m/c from happening. Worrying yourself sick doesn't prevent a m/c. And if (God forbid) it were to happen again, I know I will survive"
How far along are you?
How are you doing Physically/Emotionally?
Any upcoming appointments or tests?
Updates/Questions/Rants/Raves:
GTKY: Do you have any pets? If not, what kind of pet would you like to own?
How are you doing Physically/Emotionally? physically - I'm struggling. my body hurts. emotionally - I'm doing okay. I'm hoping I can avoid ending up at the doctor or hospital this week.
Any upcoming appointments or tests? I'm managing my GD okay - with lots of insulin and lots of food prep. next appt isn't until 10/14 and it's the 20 week U/S! my OB said to plan for 1.5 hours because it's twins.
Updates/Questions/Rants/Raves: nothing really. I'm feeling some movement. I wish I could sleep better.
GTKY: Do you have any pets? If not, what kind of pet would you like to own? Yes, we have 2 fabulous border collies. both are rescues and they are our first babies. they are also awesome "nanny puppies."
How are you doing Physically/Emotionally? Physically feeling pretty good. Having some cramps on and off, but it's pretty mild and seems to be a common thing for people around this time. Emotionally I can't believe my last ultrasound was only a week ago. I'm doing pretty well and feeling hopeful but I'm scared of how hopeful I am feeling.
Any upcoming appointments or tests? Oct. 17 I have another ultrasound! It was originally only a doppler but I called and expressed that I was having some anxiety and they are fitting me in earlier! If that ultrasound goes well then I'll finally feel "in the clear" (even though I know there isn't really any such thing). I'll be 16 weeks by then, which is when they estimated we lost our first pregnancy, so it will be kind of a milestone to make it past that with flying colors.
Updates/Questions/Rants/Raves: All above!
GTKY: Do you have any pets? If not, what kind of pet would you like to own? 1 cat (super fluffy and vocal and cuddly) and 1 dog (hates everyone except for me and H)
caer thanks for starting callmeKD SO EXCITED ABOUT THE 20 WEEK! I'm sorry about the GD. One of my friends had it and she struggled with it a lot - I hope you're managing without any issue!
-I'm doing okay all around. Still fighting off nausea, and migraines. I had a good appointment today, so that helped the nerves a tiny bit.
Upcoming Appointments? Not really. Normal OB 10/25, anatomy scan 11/7. These long breaks between appointments really drive me crazy.
Updates/Questions/Rants/Raves: My doctor asked me if I wanted to get a blood screening test for Spina Bifida. I can't decide. I was so anxious after the genetic testing. In fun stuff, I looked at a day care today. It was super nice, and I loved that they serve the kids totally organic food, and teach the babies sign language. I felt better about going the day care route after I left.
GTKY: We have one giant golden retriever. He's super awesome.
callmeKD Wishing you an uneventful week. And I did a little squee about your 20 week appointment!
mosdub I'm glad they're able to fit you in for an earlier appointment!
glb30 Yay for a good appointment! I'm struggling with the long breaks between appointments too. My OB reminds me it's a good thing...she'd want to be seeing me sooner only if she had concerns. I might have missed something, but is there a specific reason they asked if you want to do the screening for spina bifida?
How are you doing Physically/Emotionally? Physically I'm doing okay. I've had some RLP and I'm worried about my carpal tunnel starting up early, but I think it's mostly from decreased level of activity. Mentally I'm all over the place. We announced on FB yesterday and that has me both excited and terrified.
Any upcoming appointments or tests? Next appointments are on 10/18 (OB) and 10/21 (A/S).
Updates/Questions/Rants/Raves: Does anyone else have to do an echo or had one before? I have one scheduled in November and have no clue what to expect. They said the baby has a higher risk for heart issues since we did IVF.
GTKY: Do you have any pets? If not, what kind of pet would you like to own? We have one fur baby of the puppy kind. She's a papillon/toy fox terrier mix, 6 years old, and is amazingly patient with kids.
I'm sorry you're hurting callmeKD. I'm glad you're managing the GD well. My SIL and one of my BFFs had it and I know it's a huge PITA. Your pups are so cute!!
I'm glad you're getting an ultrasound at your next appointment mosdub! I know what you mean about being scared when you feel hopeful. It's tough.
glb30 - my doctor just ordered the spina bifida test for me for my next appointment. I want to know of course, but I stress so much when I'm waiting for results. So I get it.
Congrats on announcing skk! I know it can be scary to be public, so (((hugs))) for the anxiety.
How are you doing Physically/Emotionally? I've been sick again the last couple of days. At this rate I'm never going to wean from the meds! Emotionally, I'm generally feeling ok although I'm starting to stress about something being found at the anatomy scan. We haven't had an ultrasound since 8 weeks so I worry about something being wrong in there.
Any upcoming appointments or tests? Not for another month!
Updates/Questions/Rants/Raves: We announced a few days ago. It feels good to be public but also makes me nervous.
GTKY: Do you have any pets? If not, what kind of pet would you like to own? I have two old Pomeranians. They're cute but definitely cranky in their old age!
Thanks all! I've been to the doctor or the hospital at least 1x (sometimes 3x) almost every week. GD is a huge PITA but I know it's not forever. I have to keep reminding myself of that.
skk no reason for the Spina Bifida test- I guess they offer it to everyone? (He said it was a test they used pre-ultrasound) Also, we did IVF and no one mentioned the heart stuff to me!
caer I get being worried about the a/s. I'm having the same issue! Congrats on going public!
callmeKD I'm sorry you are dealing with that! (((Hugs)))
glb30 It's interesting how things can be so different depending on your doctor. I've never even heard of anyone here doing the spina bifida test before. I'm going to ask more about the heart testing at my next appointment. All I know so far is they do an echo around 22 weeks and I'm doing it at the place that does the NT and A/S scan. I'll let you know what I find out.
RE: spina bifida test. My doctor told me that it is part of the NT scan/quad screen that most people used to do around 12 weeks. Now people are doing the NIPT tests (panorama, etc.) which cover most of the things the NT scan used to cover but not spina bifida. So they do a separate blood test for that one now.
