The IL visit was completely irritating in so many ways.
H told MIL weeks ago that I did not want to cook for 6 people. So, just before they came H decided that he would cook BLT's for everyone so MIL wouldn't cook in our kitchen. Well Saturday was fine but scepter that we had to buy about $20 in bacon to feed everyone when we didn't even invite them to visit in the first place.
Then they extended their trip by a day. We suggested that we go out to an allergy friendly burger place Sunday night. Well, instead they all decided to eat burgers when they went out sight seeing that afternoon. At that point H and I were upset because we had to scramble to find other options for allergy friendly restaurants. We came up with a few and when they came over MIL refused to go to any of them. Instead she brings her recipe book and pulls H aside and asks him what he wants for dinner. She starts listing off all of these meals that have dairy or eggs or both in them. I am in the other room yelling at them that I can't eat those foods. H tells MIL that I am the one she needs to talk to. She ignores him and starts asking him about the meat in our freezer and what we can unthaw to feed all of them. We meal plan and all of our meat is portioned out for the meals we have. So H and I are pissed that they are imposing themselves on us again and expecting us to pay to feed all of them again. We are on a tight budget, they know this, and they are literally taking food out of our mouths to feed them. We did not invite them to visit, they told us they were visiting and expected us to feed and entertain them for one night, then they changed their mind and it was 2 nights without even checking if that was ok! Ok, so H again says I need to be involved in the dinner planning. At that point MIL decides that we have 2 choices. Either she makes her meatloaf or that has dairy and eggs in it or her spaghetti which we didn't have all of the ingredients for and she would have made H go out and buy.
At that point I say that I have a meatloaf recipe that doesn't have dairy or eggs in it and I guess I can make it. She gives me a smug satisfied look because she knows she backed me into a corner and I am now doing what I said I wouldn't.
MIL also announced that our luggage wasn't nice enough and that new luggage would be our joint Christmas present. When we told her we literally never use luggage she ignored us and said that's what we were getting.
I am really glad the visit is over and we won't have to see them for 6-9 months.
