We are stuck in disposables for the next two weeks until K's rash clears up. We have used them for less than 48 hours and our hatred of them is pretty solidified. You would think that we would be doing less laundry, but no. K has had more blowouts in this short time then I think she's had in her entire life. What are we doing wrong? We bought a pack of huggies size 2 that say they are for 12-18lbs. K is 14lb and these are a little big on her. I make sure the leg flare thingies are out and that they are on properly. Is this how disposables are? Is there a brand that's better with blowouts?
The pack we bought was small and cost $9 and is almost gone. Woof.

Try a different brand/style and for budget purposes I suggest generic brand or buying a ton of them at Costco if you have one nearby. You can also size up if she's having a ridiculous number of blowouts. We use sposies at night and C is close to K's size and is currently in size 3 Pampers Swaddlers.
Different brands fit differently. It's definitely not how they all are. We rarely have blowouts and mostly from user error, like maybe 5 ever. We use honest diapers, they are not cheap though. Maybe but a few small packs of different brands?
B was 16lbs 0.5oz at her Dr appt on Wed, and we've been in size 3 for over a month despite the recommended weight range. Pretty sure she carries all her weight in her thighs.
Also a different brand could make the difference. We use pampers swaddlers & really like them. We got a small pack of huggies as a gift, and rather than return them I just used them bc #lazy. I did NOT like them, & It solidified me in my decision to use pampers swaddlers.
Oh and a warning to the wise (and since she already has a rash) do NOT use pampers baby dry. H bought a pack bc that's all they had in sz 3s on an emergency run to dollar General. B got the worst diaper rash ever last week bc of them.

We use Huggies for both kids. DS has had one blow out but that was because I put him in a diaper one size too small when I ran out of his size. He's never had a diaper rash. Pampers do fit differently, so maybe try those?

V is close in size to K (15lbs) and I would put size 3 on her if she wasn't allergic to almost every diaper.
I think you're going to get a lot of personal preference here and it really just depends on the kid. DS is Huggies or die, while we can only do Luvs with V. And yes, going through them so fast makes cloth so much more appealing.
Oh I forgot to mention. J is barely 14 pounds. We have size 2 pampers. I fasten them as snug as I can without hurting her. It helps get the legs more snug too, but we do have occasional leg blowouts when her poop is extreme.
As much as it actually pains me to say this because I'm a cheapskate, the honest ones fit best so far. I like the pampers for softness and price but honest fit her best.

After an bed soaking leak followed by an epic blowout that made it so we were all up as a family at 5am on Sunday morning, I ran out and got pampers swaddlers in size 3. So far they are holding up. On one hand they seem huge on her but when she poops it's like they struggle to hold it.
halfahippy, I thought of putting a cover over them but that would mean I would being doing diaper laundry for only a few covers and it would be an extra piece to send to DC.
