How's everything going? Things I think are going well? With my DS, we had a tough go with BFing. He was in the NICU for a week, and that just set everything off on the wrong foot, so I don't really have much to go off of when it comes to experience in the first week. DD seems to be latching well. It can be shallow at times, and that is definitely contributing to cracked/bleeding nipples.
Questions/concerns/cute stories to share? When it comes to BFing before your milk comes in, how often should I be offering breast and for how long? I feel like she is popping off really quickly (10-15 minutes in), but I don't know if that is because my milk isn't fully in yet?
How's your postpartum recovery going? Good so far. I had a great labor this time around, and only managed a first degree tear. It's a little uncomfortable, but not terrible. I'd say right now my biggest complaint would have to be the raw nipples. I used a nipple shield with DS, so I never really experienced this!
Gtky: what's something you're looking forward to this month? Seeing her facial features start developing! She looks a bit like her brother, but definitely not a spitting image, so it will be fun to see who she starts to look like.

Congratulations and welcome adouces06! This early on, you want to be offering the breast whenever LO displays hunger cues aka "on demand." This will most likely be every 2-3 hours, no longer than 4 hours, and could be more frequently during periods of cluster feeding. 10-15 minutes is an appropriate length of time nursing. Some babies are just more efficient than others.

How old is LO? 2 1/2 weeks
How's everything going? We are doing really well. She has resolved any and all latch issues. She does seem to be overwhelmed by my letdown at times but if I burp her and then relay her, she seems to do fine. I'm not used to having such an excess of milk.
Questions/Concerns: I don't usually wear a bra to sleep, but I end up changing my shirt 3-4x per night because of leaking. What does everyone wear to sleep?
How's your postpartum recovery going? Very little pain. My bleeding has slowed down and I'm hopeful that it may be done by next checkin. Then it's the waiting game to see when I get my period back. With DD1 it was at 9 week, despite EBF every 2 hours all day long.
Gtky: my best friend gets married on Saturday! I also can't wait to take DD1 trick or treating.
How's everything going? Ok, much better than with DS back on the day, but some things could be better
Questions/concerns/cute stories to share? DD has the tendency to be a snacker. I think we get about 5-7 mins of nursing time in before she is done. I've tried tickling her gently, wash cloth and keeping up the flow but nothing seems to help. She's asking for good every 2hrs give or take (it used to be 3+). It's that something we should work on or totally normal/healthy? She's colicky in the evening and I think she's having some moderate acid reflux, if that's important
How's your postpartum recovery going? Great! ,I was back to normal on day 3. Dunno how that happens, with DS I suffered for weeks!
Gtky: what's something you're looking forward to this month? Cooler weather and accompanying fall clothes!!!
WittyLittle, as long as weight gain is okay, you probably just have an efficient nurser. Also, fussiness in the evenings is normal for newborns (the witching hour!).
hurricanerek I wore soft sleep nursing bras (same as emmyg) with disposable breast pads. I couldn't switch to reusable breast pads til my supply regulated a bit, maybe 6 weeks?
@hazeldublin nursing discreetly gets easier as baby gets bigger and you both get more practice. I like the two shirt method: a tank top underneath a shirt. Pull the shirt up and the tank top down on the side you're nursing. If I didn't do that & just pulled my shirt down, I would throw a burp rag over the top of my boob. I was gonna need it anyway & it made a nice cover without actually covering my baby. When it cools off a bit more, a scarf could do a similar thing.
Practice in front of a mirror or a trusted friend if you're really concerned. It's probably not as 'bad' as you think, or as hard to fix.
If baby popped off I often used my free hand to cover my nipple until I could get his attention again or rearrange clothing / burp rag to cover me.
@hazeldublin, yes, I liked the tank top method lilyelayne described. Or wear a button up shirt and a scarf. You can unbutton just enough to get access and use the scarf to cover the top of your boob. Most of the time, baby's head covers pretty much everything though!
You'll also find your groove and get more comfortable with breastfeeding. I nursed in public a lot, but I also kinda loved the excuse to go find a quiet place and snuggle my baby in peace sometimes.
How's everything going? Pretty good. We had some weight issues around 2w old but he's back on track!
Questions/concerns/cute stories to share? Pain and a red spot on my right nipple. Just posted a separate thread asking for help.
How's your postpartum recovery going? Great! Some spotting/light bleeding still but otherwise I feel completely back to normal.
GTKY: What's something you're looking forward to this month? Brady's return to the Patriots! And my BFF's second baby! She's about 2 weeks out from her due date so after being friends for almost 30 years, we're going to have boys only weeks apart!
Questions/Concerns: I don't usually wear a bra to sleep, but I end up changing my shirt 3-4x per night because of leaking. What does everyone wear to sleep?
I've been wearing a nursing tank so I can have nursing pads in while I sleep. Walmart sells some that are loose fitting and really soft so they're good for sleeping in. And they were cheap!

I'm a FTM so I can only tell you about the past few weeks, but DS does the same. Some feedings he only goes 5-10 minutes no matter how hard I try to keep him awake. We had some weight issues around 2w so I had to really work to keep him eating longer, but once he was back on track for weight gain the LC saud he could just be an efficient nurser and as long as he continued to gain ok it wasn't a problem to have short nursing sessions.
