moutonrouge throwing your own shower is considered gift grabby anyway. They're supposed to be thrown for you!
(The actual level of social etiquette faux pax fluctuates somewhat depending on where you live and your social circle norms. I just used the adjective you used, I don't think you're gift grabby!)
A friend would throw it for me - she offered and I'm debating whether to take her up on it or not. I definitely wouldn't throw my own or let family throw one for me.
Let her do it. I was in a similar situation with DS. No family around and no friends around either. You'll enjoy it and she wants to do something special. Plus 10-15 people sounds just fine to me.
I bought all the ingredients to bake some brownies tonight but I think I'm too tired. Story of my life lately!
I got home and had ambitions but fell asleep on the couch. H was disappointed I didn't clean and make dinner since I got home earlier than usual. Whoops.
I love genetics A part of me would LOVE to have an adorable little copy of dh running around.. but on the other hand, I don't want to listen to his family go on and on about how much he looks like his daddy
Funny though, I really like my mils (dh's parents are divorced).. I just hate for grandparents to "claim" my kids. Yeah.. that is my confession, I guess. My mil says this will be a February baby.. now I'm all ready to go past due date just to prove her wrong. Grandparents drive me nuts with their grabby grabby nature ><

I'm Mexican and DS still looks like my white husband haha who has light brown hair and brown eyes. DS was born w a lot of dark hair and it all fell out and came back light brown w blonde highlights. What's interesting is I have green/blue eyes, only one in my direct family so I'm curious if I'll pass it on to my kids at all.
It is the ultimate surprise to see the combo of parents, and yet they still change year to year!

I know what you mean about the family.
MH and his two sisters were born on the 18th. It was April, June, July. When I was pregnant and due with Clara my due date was 5/21. My MIL and his family went on and on about how she will be born on the 18th so we have a May in the mix too. I was pissed at these comments that happened all 9 months that once the 18th can I was so happy to not have her and that she was 5 days late.

I wanted DD to be born on her due date. It was DH's grandma's birthday. (She was two days late). MIL didn't want it because her mom would be too excited. What?!?!
My mom just posted one facebook that I'm: 1: pregnant 2: having a girl
I'm LIVID. I wasn't going to talk about my pregnancy on facebook for *reasons I don't think I should have to explain to her or anyone*. I'm fighting mad that she doesn't respect my privacy. Was it not enough to tell everybody and their sister that I was pregnant when the loss risk from an IUD removal was high?! Oh, and I had asked her to keep this stuff to herself!

DS is pretty much my DH's clone! XD Fun fact, DH and I are both Creek and Choctaw and DS had brown eyes when we were in the hospital. I didn't even known that could happen.

I do not want this baby to be born on his/her due date. That's my grandmas birthday and we don't speak. 1 week early is also bad because that's the birthday of my former employee that screwed me over and took half of my business. Any other day in March is fine though lol.
This kid better come out looking like me. DS is a mini-DH and has been since the minute he was born.

I am with you on this. MIL can be pretty bad with that. I love that DS looks like H but it can be irritating to hear about. I stopped in to MIL's work with C one day. When i was coming out of the washroom I walked over to MIL just as she finished saying "omg doesnt he look JUST like me?!" Uh... No. He looks exactly like your son... His father. It was just weird. I wouldnt mind if he did look like her but he really doesnt.
I think she said it because C looks more like her than me (he looks nothing like me) and thats the only comparison her coworkers could make at the time.
FTR i love my MIL and she is generally an awesome lady. She is just... Excitable.

Youre right about the changes! My son has gone through phases of serious whiteness haha. I called him a chameleon baby because he always seemed to be changing colour.

. that is hilarious. There is a guy I graduated HS with that I had a major crush on and now we are best friends that could be my brother and I's sibling. That would be my life had we actually gotten together like I thought I wanted lol.
I've actually done face swap of our pictures and it's creeeeeepy.

I am Puerto Rican, and I have really black hair and olive skin--my H is white with brown hair. Our child looks like a carbon copy of him, except with my skin and hair coloring, lol. Genetics are funny
@priss08, I am so sorry that your mom did that! My mom told everyone my news during my first pregnancy and I still get mad if I think about it too much. It was not her news to share, and she totally stole the thunder of the moment. Ugh, I can understand your rage. So sorry that happened

I'm sorry. :/ I'm a bit wistful for nudist pregnancy when we lived a country away and I wasn't on speaking terms with her.
@priss08 I would be livid if my mom did that. My mom was borderline giving it away on things she was liking and sharing on FB early on and I told her ASAP to stop. I am so mad for you!

I'm assuming "nudist pregnancy" is an autocorrect of "my last pregnancy," but I'm still chuckling over here!
I totally thought @priss08 was just saying in the other country she could be a nudist and not talk to her mom. Seriously. I was like "oh, well that's interesting she's a nudist!"

OMG lol. I'm not a nudist. Not even sure why auto-correct would use that.
