BF, EP, FF, some combination? We have been BF since day 1. This weekend, I pumped because I had a large crack on each nipple that I'm trying to heal. Tonight we are back to the boob because it is too much to pump and feed her when DH isn't around to help. The boob is way easier for me with much less clean up and the cracks are mostly healed now anyways.
How often is LO eating/how many times a day? If giving bottles how much? If BF how long, one or both sides? Usually about 10 or 11 times a day. We did just go through a growth spurt and hit 14 times on Thursday. Usually she feeds from one side for about 15-20 minutes, but occasionally both with a total around 25 minutes. Yesterday, she ate 24 oz of pumped milk when she was bottle fed all day.
Anything else I missed or you have questions about? I am curious for those of you who BF with larger breasts, what hold do you get the best latch with? We mostly do the football hold. She doesn't open as wide when we do the cross cradle. The cradle is a no-go because she doesn't stay latched well enough for me not to hold her head and my boob.
Me: 28, all tests normal DH: 34, very low count, motility, morphology DX - MFI 11/14/09 - Married 01/01/14 - TTC #1 01/06/15 - Started working with RE 04/06/15 - Recommendation - straight to IVF w/ICSI 09/04/15 - Started working with new RE Nov/Dec 15 - IVF w/ ICSI #1 - 11R/8F - 1 transferred, 3 frozen
How often is LO eating/how many times a day? If giving bottles how much? If BF how long, one or both sides? LO eats 9-10 times a day almost always on both sides with some rare exceptions. The feedings usually take a total of 20-30 minutes.
Anything else I missed or you have questions about? I'm planning to add a pump session or two over the next couple weeks to start a freezer stash for when I go back to work in late January, and we'll probably introduce the occasional bottle 1-2 months before I go back to make sure LO will take it.
BF, EP, FF, some combination? Combo of FF with pumped donor milk from my friend
How often is LO eating/how many times a day? If giving bottles how much? If BF how long, one or both sides? She's eating about 19 oz in bottles, ranging between 1.5-2.5 oz every 2-3 hours during the day and 3-4 hours at night. We're still waking her to feed as she hasn't quite regained birth weight yet.
Anything else I missed or you have questions about? For those who FF, do you have LOs that snack? Occasionally after a 2.5 oz bottle, she'll want an oz an hour later.
BF, EP, FF, some combination? BF, we've tried bottles twice now and she did pretty well with them. Planning to give a bottle a couple times a week until daycare in January.
How often is LO eating/how many times a day? If giving bottles how much? If BF how long, one or both sides? Eating 10-12 times each day. We still cluster feed in the evenings and she is up 2 times usually in the night. The 2nd wake up is usually about an hour before we get up for the day and I'm trying to stretch that out so she gets used to 8:30-7:30 being night for now. She usually takes both sides and will go 1.5-2 hours between during the day. I feed on demand so sometimes it's much shorter!
Nursing has been going so much better since we had the tongue and lip tie revised. I'm so happy we did it this time around! Well worth the cost.

How old is LO? 8 weeks today
BF, EP, FF, some combination? BF
How often is LO eating/how many times a day? If giving bottles how much? If BF how long, one or both sides? He eats a lot. 12-14 times a day on average. He's a grazer, so feeds are usually about 7-8 minutes from one side only. I've got an over active letdown, so sometimes, if he struggles with that, the feeds are shorter bc he's full of air. Then we have to feed again in half an hour or so. Ideally, he goes 2 hours between feeds, but that really only happens if he takes a long nap.
Anything else I missed or you have questions about? I'm dairy free and I hate it. I feel like I'm always hungry. It's only been a week, so I just need to work on finding foods that I can eat.

How old is LO? 18 weeks
BF, EP, FF, some combination?
Pumped breastmilk mixed neosure a milk foritifer formula for preemie babies. Right now I still try to pump fresh stuff at least three times a day but its getting to be to much amd taking up to much time that im considering stopping which bums me out because I was looking forward to trying to BF eventually.

6xs a day ever 4 hours. I plan on talk to the pediatrician at our next appt about feeding on demand. He gets just over 3oz right now, 89ccs, and if he does well this weekend he'll go up to 92ccs. Right now he's on a combination of bottle fed and pump fed since he still gets to tired to finish a bottle along with other feeding issues. Lately he's done about a 1/4 of an ounce by bottle before he gets to tired, the rest gets put in his pump. He has specific instructions we have to follow before we can attempt to bottle feed because he doesn't always get his rhythm right which can cause him to choke. Over all things are going ok his rhythm is improving and when he awake enough to drink from the bottle the ammount he's taking is more consistent.

How old is LO? 3.5 weeks
BF, EP, FF, some combination? EBF
How often is LO eating/how many times a day? If giving bottles how much? If BF how long, one or both sides? He eats about every 2 hours during the day and goes about 3 hours at night. Usually just on 1 side, and it takes about 15-20 minutes per feed, unless he falls asleep and doesn't unlatch for a while. I'm exhausted.

How often is LO eating/how many times a day? If giving bottles how much? If BF how long, one or both sides? On average every 1 1/2 to 3 1/2 hours. Been closer to every 1 to 1 1/2 hours the past couple days so I'm thinking growth spurt. Every 3 to 4 hours overnight.
He averages 10-15 per nursing session, usually only one side at a time. I seem to have a fast letdown and can literally hear the milk squirting into his mouth with each suck so he must just fill up from the one side.
Once in a while he'll hit 20-25 minutes on one side and/or look for the other. Been happening more the past couple days so another reason I'm thinking growth spurt.
Anything else I missed or you have questions about? I finally remembered to start using my Milkies Milk Saver on the side I'm not using when nursing. I got an ounce in 3 10min nursing sessions yesterday so I could collect a decent size bottle each day if I keep it up.

pippacricket - The recommendation I was given from my ped, LC, and hospital was every 1 1/2 to 3 hours during the day, bit longer at night was ok. So 24 hours divided by 3 hour stretches is 8 times. Adjusting for some 4 hour stretches at night would be less than 8.
I would think as long as N is gaining ok and has sufficient wet and dirty diapers you are fine. I think average numbers can be a good guideline, but each baby will be different and I know I'm trying not to stress about meeting "requirements".

pippacricket if she's gaining, happy and has enough wet and dirty diapers, she's (and you're) doing great!!! ETA: good for you for EPing. I've always admired the time and commitment that requires. You rock.

How often is LO eating/how many times a day? If giving bottles how much? If BF how long, one or both sides? On average every 2-3 hours. Hence the crappy sleep BF sessions are about 10-15 minutes total. He's a pretty fast eater. Formula he usually drinks about 2-4oz at a time depending how hungry he is.

pippacricket, after 2 weeks kellymom says 8-12+ so you are right on! We cluster feed in the evenings which drives my count up. EPing probably changes things too since I know E likes to comfort nurse so I'm sure some of our sessions are just for her sake to get snuggles.
How often is LO eating/how many times a day? If giving bottles how much? If BF how long, one or both sides? She nurses about every 2-3 hours give or take. She mostly nurses from one side per feeding although a few times a day she will nurse from both. I have just been following her cues and nursing on demand. She has taken a couple of bottles of pumped milk - 2oz about but then she wants to nurse afterwards.
Anything else I missed or you have questions about? Not right now...so interesting to see everyone's experiences.
pippacricket, as long as she's gaining weight and all else is well, you're good. K fluctuates from day to day how often she eats.

How often is LO eating/how many times a day? If giving bottles how much? If BF how long, one or both sides? Usually every 2-3 hours during the day, 3-4 hours at night (sometimes as much as 5 between feedings at night). Keeping count of "how many" is annoying because she nurses and gets a bottle pretty much every time, so my little phone app usually has double what her actual feedings are. She usually nurses for between 10 and 30 minutes (between 5 and 15 per side) depending on how long it's been since her last time nursing. Then she gets between 2 and 4 oz of formula. Though last night she did an ounce of pumped breast milk and 6 oz of formula over the course of 2 hours.
rufus426 one thing I learned form LC about large breasts is that it helps to hold the bottom of your breast up during a feeling (with your hand or my shoving a burp rag under there) what happens otherwise is the weight of your breast will go with gravity and slowest pull out of babies mouth. So what was originally a deep latch because shallow with time. I hope that makes sense in terrible at explaining things! I suppose that's unnecessary if you are doing football hold though! I start with cross cradle and then once she is latched correctly I'll slide my elbow under her head into cradle position.
annapunkalunka hugs mama! I had to go dairy free with my first for 7 months (he outgrew it by 9 mo). I promise it becomes easier once you get over the cravings (if you love cheese like I do!). After about a month I didn't even feel the need to have dairy anymore. The frustrating part was finding snacks, it seemed like anything prepackaged had dairy in it.
In full disclosure regarding the questions: I have no idea how much LO eats or how often. I make sure I wake her every 2-3 hours during the day to eat and I don't wake her at night. She does cluster feed from 6-8 she is basically on the breast. She is 3 weeks, EBF
How often is LO eating/how many times a day? If giving bottles how much? If BF how long, one or both sides? They eat about 8-9 times a day, for 10-20 minutes and take one side each. I tandem nurse about 4 times a day and feed them separately the other times. They've only had a bottle once now and they took a few ounces each. We'll try harder to get them to take a bottle better over the next few weeks.

pippacricket, I see no red flags. Feed her when she's hungry. 5oz in one feeding is on the high end so that may be why you don't see a higher frequency of feeds.

How often is LO eating/how many times a day? If giving bottles how much? If BF how long, one or both sides? We feed on demand. I haven't been keeping track of how often. If she cries I stick a boob in her mouth and that usually solves the problem. She usually takes one side at a time but will cluster feed while she's awake. Nursing sessions can last anywhere from 3-20 minutes.
Anything else I missed or you have questions about? I'm tandem nursing my older daughter as well. It's sweet but also a challenge. Dd1 has trouble understanding why dd2 gets milk first. It has been hard to delay her once she gets her heart set on milk.
BF and FF. The first 4.5w she was only needing 3-4oz F but after that 6w growth spurt she takes about 5 2oz bottles now. That makes me sad. It shouldn't. She's getting BM from me too, but I'm still sad a little
LO eats 10-12x a day still. She'll normally take both sides during the day but only takes 1 side at night. I'm jealous of everyone for the quick nursing sessions. Ours normally last 25-30m per side.
Questions- my Jan15 board says even non nutritive sucking is beneficial especially since I underproduce. This is why my sessions are longer. Do you guys let them non nutritive suck?

I'll let him for a bit, but it's mainly because I don't want to cut him off if he might still be hungry, and even if he switches to non-nutritive sucking it doesn'tlast long and he either goes back to actual nursing or lets go.
I'll let him be longer on the left than the right since the right still hurts from nipple shape causing a shallow latch. I don't need him making it worse when he's not actually eating.
I don't know if that's the "right" approach or not, but that's what I've been doing.

theophania, I don't know if you've been through tongue ties before, but the 'tongue tie babies support group' on Facebook has a ton of information that can help you and your providers.
Thanks kerbear! I EP'ed with DD1 so I totally planned on FF with twins but they took to the boob so well and easy. It was a pleasant surprise for our wallets. Lol

kerbear it generally depends on the time of day. If dd1 needs my attention I don't hesitate to break the latch when she switches to nns. When it's just me and dd2 though, I tend to let her go longer just because I enjoy the extra bonding and being able to comfort her. She's easygoing and I already feel like dd1 gets way more of my attention so I try to carve out time for dd2 when I can.
So for those of you that answered "only takes one side", when you're getting slightly longer stretches at night do you pump the other side? Or just wait and offer the other side at the next feeding? I certainly don't want to pump but sometimes it can be 6ish hours plus

I've just been waiting until next feeding unless I'm feeling really full, then I'll pump to help prevent clogs/mastitis. Hopefully it's not a mistake to go so long between uses, but I don't want to be pumping after every feeding.
I don't get engorged too often and DS certainly seems to have enough to eat so it must be working for us.
