Supply dip help

Hi Ladies
I got my first pp period last month when DS was 9m. It only lasted a day and we were on vacation and LO could nod. Now he is wanting to feed every 1.5h and is feeding both sides where he is normally a feed one side every 2-3h sort of guy. I suspect it may be due to a cold I have (not taking any meds) and that I am due for another AF. His desire for solids hasn't changed. Any suggestions or thoughts? I am trying to drink lots. I didn't get a period with my first until we weaned so this is new territory for me. How long do I expect this to last too?

No experience because I haven't had a PP period yet and DD is only 6 months. However, I was looking up growth spurts on kellymom and saw there is a 9 month growth spurt. Maybe that's what it is but a little delayed? I'm sure others will have more info though! I also read somewhere on here that taking calcium can help with supply during AF.

You recently cut back his night nursing, right? Do you think he might be reacting to that, whether in terms of milk volume or in terms of contact with you? (I think you said you were still actually taking the wakeups, though, just not nursing between 12-5 or 7, right?) That's one thought.

To westiemom's point, I've seen people here also mention magnesium as helpful to AF-related supply dips.

Thanks westiemom, but he is now 10.5m and we def did the 9m spurt about 7 weeks ago. His overnight wakings haven't changed, which is usually his growth spurt indicator.

bluefairy5, maybe but it has been about a month since I cut back on night feeds and this has only been a 48h issue right now.

Ah gotcha. Well, that's good, at least! If it's only the last 48h, that seems (from reading around) still within normal parameters for an ovulation-related dip. Thinking back, I've also had supply dips around colds, even without stomach virus type of symptoms involved. I will fall back on my anecdotal recommendation for blue Gatorade. It might just be placebo effect, but I see a difference when pumping, at least.

Ovulation and/or your period can temporarily lower your supply. LO may nurse extra to make up for it. Your supply will recover when your hormones shift again. If you feel the dip is significant enough to bother him, you can try calcium+magnesium supplements. Here's the kellymom link for more info:

Hmmmm I know he's been working on one of his canines but tonight I caught a glimpse of his mouth and there are 3 teeth getting close. That had me realize he has been chewing on me a fair bit. Perhaps the chewing rather than effective suck swallow has also played a role here....
