While my LO takes his third nap of the day I figured I would ask this question. He's coming up on 8 months old and the longest he can stay up on a good day is 3 hours...which is often pushing it. He naps about 3.5-4 hours a day and sleeps at night approximately 10.5 hours. It just seems like he's sleeping way more during the day than the average almost 8 month old. I figured I would see where others LO's are at.

J is 8 months old, sleeps from around 7.20PM (he often takes a little while to drift off) to anywhere between 6 and 7AM in the morning.. Then he has 3 naps a day as well, and gets between 2.5 and 3.5 hours usually? So I don't think your LO is sleeping too much, they still need a fair bit at this age. I'd be lucky to get J to three hours without him screaming at me!
Levi sleeps about 10 hours at night on week nights and about 11 hours on weekends. He takes 3 naps during the week (usually about 4 hours total) and generally 2 on weekends (about 3 hours total). But we are almost always busy on weekends going places and doing things so he will catnap in the car or be excited with what we are doing and not nap.

I think if my babe would take longer naps she'd only nap twice a day but how it is now, she naps twice at daycare for one hour each and I push for a third nap at home because otherwise she's just so overtired by bedtime. She sleeps just over 11 hours a night during the week and probably less on the weekend. She probably only sleeps about 2.5 hours for naps during the day total. We are on the fence with that third nap though and I wouldn't be surprised if we lose it over the next month.
I'm going to keep letting her nap 3 times as long as I think she needs it. That baby knows what he's doing!
DD2 takes 2-3 naps a day at 1-1.5 hours each then sleeps 11.5+ hours at night (straight through, no wake ups). I'd say that it's normal. eventually they'll drop the third nap and go to two with the afternoon one being longer (ideally). Then they'll drop to just one nap a day in the afternoon (maybe around 1.5? I don't remember and it's different for every kid).
Thanks Ladies! I just needed some justification. My parents and other family members think that he sleeps to much and takes to many naps. I was beginning to doubt myself. At the same time if they want to spend 48 hours with him and see what happens when you don't let him sleep they can feel free. I think I need to stand up for myself more, put my foot down, and tell them that I know what's right for my child.
