I need to figure out how to stay asleep. I'm so exhausted I fall asleep early but I'm wide awake at 5am
Benadryl. I have to take it nightly to fight the awful pregnancy insomnia. I'm in bed by 8pm each day and up 5-5:30am. Without the Benadryl, I'm up for at least 3 hours in that time frame

Ugh. My direct manager just cornered me and asked what my plans are after the twins come. I just played it off like I haven't thought about it yet. I wasn't going to tell them that I want to switch to part time work from home until after I get my year end bonus and after I try to talk them into a raise.
mustloveerica - That's frustrating they brought it up. I'm not sure what all legally/contractually you are required to disclose, but I'm all for dodging the question until after you get your bonus and raise.

Hopefully they leave you alone for a while!
I'm pretty sure it's illegal for them to ask outside of HR. Thankfully my manager is really a good guy so I know he wants to help me as much as possible. I told him I was pregnant pretty much as soon as I found out and he's been nothing but excited and supportive of me. My hope is that he's asking because they are worried I won't come back. I think that will work in my favor when I ask to switch to part time oh and yeah I also I want to work from home. We'll see how it goes I guess. I told him I'd work on coming up with a plan by the beginning of the new year. I already have a plan I'm just not ready to share it with work yet.
Also full time daycare for two infants is almost as much as I make. So it's part time work from home or nothing. Either way it's a win for me.

I'll also add i am the first person in the 27 year history of my work to ever be pregnant (male dominated field). So maternity leave will be a complete shock to them and I don't think they know what to do with me haha.
mustloveerica - I was thinking he couldn't officially ask, so that's good. Really nice he's so supportive! Hopefully they go for your plan, especially if they are afraid you won't come back at all!

My company isn't quite that old but I will also be the first person to ever be pregnant and I know that we don't have a policy in place (small office). I haven't told anyone at work yet but it'll be interesting to see what they come up with. I have some vacation time saved up and there is at least short term disability for 6 weeks at some shitty reduced pay. I am also considering reducing my hours and at least working some of that time at home so we'll see how that all goes over. The timing is perhaps not ideal since there is a rumor one of the partners is leaving next September...

If you get any form of benefits through them, you'll need to check what they require you to do upon return from leave. A condition in FMLA allows the company to require that you return to work at your prior time for X amount of time or you have to repay benefits to them. I believe it's capped at a month, but not sure. This assumes you'll be using FMLA and not just negotiating a leave through a company that isn't required to follow the law.

Oh this is good to know. I had just assumed that my leave would be unpaid depending on when I become part time because I wouldn't be eligible for benefits. I'm hoping they still let me take my two weeks paid vacation tho that's I've been hoarding all year so I'll at least get two weeks paid. Who knows. I don't think there's a formal policy in place. Just vacation + short term disability.
marshian can you stomach yogurt right now? I found in 1st tri that it really helped with the nausea between meals and the protein helped fill me up. also, yes to hard candy. I had a thing of lollipops from Trader Joe's that I would keep in my purse and they helped a lot with the queasiness, especially when riding in a car.

I haven't tried yogurt. Thinking about eating it isn't throwing me off, so maybe I'll try some. Thanks for the suggestion!
I bought peppermint Lifesavers and Jolly Ranchers today. I didn't even think about the car (haven't had to drive anywhere this week). Now I'm dreading the next car trip.

I lived off of Greek yogurt during 1st tri. I was eating 10-12 yogurts a week.

They can have you repay them for the premiums they pay for STD (if they're the ones that pay it) and their portion of medical/dental/vision if you get it through them. It all depends on the company and the policy.
We ran into this issue with a lady in one of our regional offices- she got the job with us but we had to place her on immediate leave for so long so she could go back to her old job for a month so she wouldn't have to repay the benefits (state requires that we hire ASAP because there's such a small time frame we have to hire but we can go on immediately leave in order to finish up our prior positions)
