Silver 2002 Chevy Cavalier, that my mom brought me up to the dealership to pick up. It had been a rental vehicle beforehand, so it had a million miles on it. No quirks other than the exhaust rusted out from underneath it, fell off while I was out and about driving. And it had its driver side mirror zip tied on.
Year/make/model/color? Ford tempo. Blue. No idea of the year but I'd guess 1990
[/b] How did you acquire it? it was my parents' old car. We lived in the country so driving was pretty much mandatory for school etc.
Memorable quirks? It was a stick shift.
/How long did you have it? Until sophomore year of college, so 1999-2000.
Its demise? I don't remember. It was in bad shape. I got my grandpa's old car at that point because he could no longer drive. That one was a red ford escort.
A bonus question that also applies to anyone who doesn't drive: What sort of vehicle would you like to drive if money and/or space for LOs weren't a problem? I always say I want a Ferrari. In reality, IDGAF. As long as it drives nicely and gets me where I need to go comfortably. I'm perfectly happy with my Honda odyssey.

Year/make/model/color? 1994 Ford Taurus Forest Green How did you acquire it? My parents bought it from my neighbor. Memorable quirks? Apparently it came with a pack of cigarettes. My mom found that and didn't believe me when I told her they weren't mine. How long did you have it? I think 2002-2004 Its demise? I bought yet another Taurus from my grandma in 2004 and my boyfriend at the time bought this car from my parents. I have no idea what happened to it because we broke up and I haven't seen him sonce.
2002 White Alero. My dad bought it for my siblings and I to share, since my parents were sick of chauffeuring us everywhere. Quirks-the turn signal clicked, all of the time, but wasn't actually lighting up. I had it for ten years until it died in the middle of an intersection. A sad, sad day.
Hand-me-down from my sister which was my dads before that.
Don't think it had any quirks. Though it did have a stereo with a detachable face plate. W/o that it didn't work. Once as payback for something my sister stole the faceplate and then went on a week long trip. That sucked.
Until senior year. It had a lot of mileage on it and I blew the transition out twice four wheeling soooo.... My dad decided to turn it into a farm vehicle and bought me a new, none four wheelable car.
My first car was a Buick Skylark. I don't remember the year though.
It was my sister's then it was given to me.
I don't think it had quirks. It was still really nice when I got it.
I was turning left and a woman coming head on ran a red light and hit me. She said she didn't know if the light was red when she went through so I got the ticket because I technically turned in front of her. The car was totaled.
How did you acquire it? I was moving for college and it was my mom's car. She hated it from the day she got it, so she upgraded and I got it
Memorable quirks? It was a Geo Metro hatchback. Google them. Also, it was a stick shift.
How long did you have it? I had it for 3? years. My dad bought a teal 1997 Geo Metro and traded with me because the teal one had less miles.
Its demise? So my dad took it back and was driving it, but it has now rusted out at just over 200K. All the salt in WI isn't very kind to cars. We still have the teal one. It has 160K on it and lives.
Dream car would be a Challenger
I love all you Cavalier drivers! My current car is an 04 Cavy and I actually love it.

Year Make Model = Black Nissan Pulsar with T-tops early 90's Acquired = my parents bought it for me for my 16th bday from a dealer Quirks/Demise = It was a complete piece of shit! Doubled the money they paid for it in repairs within the 1st year of owning it. Second time the transmission blew out they scrapped it and bought me a 93 Saturn stick shift that lasted me through the rest of high school and college. Dream Car= Refurbished 1950's ford pick up truck
My first car was a Buick Skylark. I don't remember the year though.
It was my sister's then it was given to me.

My first car was a 1994 Nissan Altima. That little thing was a tank. My sister had it before me and she got in 3 accidents in it and that car never even had a scratch on it. I got it when she went to college. It was a great little car that I named Isabella and affectionately called Izzie. I totalled her about a year after I got my license. I fish tailed on a gravel road and hit an embankment and then got caught in a ditch. I was just trying to get to school on time so my teacher wouldn't yell at me. I didn't make it to school that day and I was lucky I didn't end up wrapped around a tree. I cried that whole day because I felt so bad that I killed my car.

Year/make/model/color? 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix (maroon) How did you acquire it? I never liked the POS. Bought it with my own money in college, parents paid for insurance and so insisted on picking it out with instead of me. Memorable quirks? The windshield wipers had like 50 different speeds. How long did you have it? About 5 years. Its demise? The fucking breaks totally gave out while I was on the highway. Last straw. I used the e-brake to roll that puppy to a Honda dealership and traded that shit stain for a 2008 Civic, which I still have and is awesome.
ETA: also it was from that terrible in-between time where the car had a CD player but no tape player, and then MP3 players came out and the only way you could get them to play in your car was with a tape.
Year/make/model/color? 1974 Volkswagon Beetle Orange, 4 speed standard
How did you acquire it? My parents bought it from a guy in Memphis for $3gs
Memorable quirks? Black interior, no A/C...I live in the South. Also it was so really lite weight. The football team at my HS was always moving it around the parking lot bc a few of them could lift it easily. Beetles have the engine in the back and the trunk up front, so there's that.
How long did you have it? All through HS
Its demise? Upgraded to a reliable car when I moved off to college
Bonus: If money were no option I would drive a 1974 VW Beetle.
I had a 1993 Mitchubichi eclipse- red. My grandparents had it for about 5 years before they gave it to me when I turned 16. It was a stick shift and I loved it! It had this red light on the dash that nobody ever could figure out what it was for or when it would come on! My friends joked that if it ever did come on, they were bailing out! Lol I had it 5ish years before the head gasket went out and that was the end of that car! Still sad about it!
Bonus: I drive but I'll answer anyway! I would want a small SUV- a Hinda Pilot or a Toyota Highlander. We love to travel and want a boat so we need something we can tow with! Also perfect family car- and yes, I'm THAT mom.
I had a silver 1986 Honda civic two door hatchback. It was my dad's old car.
Quirks: Get ready...4 speed stick shift...needed to add oil once a week because it burned through it so quickly...it couldnt get up hills with more than 3 people in it....the bumper fell off and I fixed it with duct tape...at christmas time i tied bows to the duct tape to make it more festive.
I think i drove it for 1 or 2 years.
I got another hand me down car that was in slightly better shape, so the honda went to our neighbor's son who turned into his off road rally car. It died in the middle of a field.
I aspire to someday have an Audi TT hard top convertible. Or at least a nice Subaru.

My first car was my mother's old 1992 Audi. It was a pretty car but the radio stopped working and the catalytic converter wasn't working properly so it sounded like a jet every time I stepped on the gas. After having that for a year or so it caught on fire while I driving. My dad felt terrible (it was no ones fault) and he decided to buy me a brand new Honda accord. My dad and I shared that car but he drives a truck for work so almost never needed it. I kept that car through college.
My first car was a white Dodge Horizon...probably about 1980 model. Folks bought it toward the end of senior year so I could get around. I drove it about 3 years. The floor boards rusted out and my uncle put the engine in another car. Quirks...you could open the hatch with any key. So when I locked myself out I'd borrow someone else's keys and climb through the back. Dream car: I'd love to have a Dodge Viper.
It was a teal 1995 Olds Achieva. I bought it with my high school graduation money when I was a sophomore in college. It would lock itself, I swear. I got locked out of that car so many times and I know I did not hit the lock button.
DH never liked my car. So after we were married, it started leaking oil. It was after an oil change, so honestly I think they forgot to do something. But we decided to trade it in for a more reliable car. We bought a 2008 Ford Taurus and we had forgotten something in my Achieva. So we came back to the dealer to get it out. The guy who sold us the car and did the trade in had just gotten locked out of the Achieva. So, it wasn't just me. The car did have a mind of it's own.
Year/make/model/color? 2002 Honda Accord Coupe (2 door) silver
How did you acquire it? Hand me down from MH. He bought it slightly used with cash when he came back from deployment in 2004, it wash his first "nice grown up car".
Memorable quirks? How long did you have it? MH had it for 4 years and then when I moved down to the US from Canada, I didn't own a car so he gave me the Accord and we picked up something new for him. I drove it from 2008-March 2014. I work in some rough places and Honda Accord always got me there - with the occasional bump in the road. There was one time I ended up driving down a paper street that got more and more narrow I ended up having to back up and snagged Honda Accord on a log. By the time we got to the real street, she had a rail dangling off. There was another time I was working on the side of the interstate 95 last winter and the state troopers had to block all three lanes of traffic so our subcontractor could pull Honda Accord out with their winch after the State Police Escort offered to "help me get my car out by pushing me".... and I ended up at the bottom of the highway embankment with his "help". I wasn't even stuck when he offered, I think he just wanted to use his push bars.
Its demise? She made it with my first round of 2u2 (I deserve an honorary degree in Tetris - 2 RF car seats in a coupe), when we found out we were expecting LO3 and would be 2u2 again, and she wouldn't pass inspection, and she had a rough winter on our icy back roads, it was time to set her free back into the universe.
Year/make/model/color? 2001 Black Ford Ranger XLT How did you acquire it? My parents got it as an extra vehicle when I was 18 to have because I was finally able to drive Memorable quirks? I was having electrical/battery problems and it wouldn't start all the time. I kept a hammer with me at all times because I would have to pop the hood open and tab the battery wires to get the thing started again. How long did you have it? 2004-2011 Its demise? We sold it.
I had a Chrysler Cirrus in champagne gold. Year 2000 with 20,000 miles. I thought myself quite lucky! Got it from a used car lot. I stopped driving it in 2008 but my dad still drives it to this day. It's starting to rust through the bottom so he has just started looking for a new one. It now has 170,000 miles and I'm very sad it will die soon It was a great car though. I never had any issues with it that I can remember. Oh! Once the passenger window stopped rolling up and down so I had to leave it up all the time. Also at one point whenever I would turn on the hazards, the fuse would blow and then my turn signals wouldn't work at all until I replaced the fuse. I went through a lot of fuses for a period of time.
Year/make/model/color? 2001 Ford F150 Toreador Red How did you acquire it? I bought it new when I was 22. I was so proud to not need a co-signer and even more proud when I paid it off. Memorable quirks? Eh, it was pretty reliable. Maybe the pinging noise when I stepped on the gas? How long did you have it? 12 years, 115K miles Its demise? I sold it to CarMax because I started having "car payments" in repairs each month from usual wear and tear on an older car. H convinced me that it was time to put me in a newer car as my commute was 30+ miles each way. I cried every night just thinking about parting with it because I had been through so much with it. The inspector at CarMax could not beleive it was a 12 year old car because I babied it. It was hard to part with the first big purchase I made as an adult. I sobbed in the CarMax bathroom while I waited to sign over the title.

Year/make/model/color? 1996/Ford/Mustang/Purple How did you acquire it? I was spoiled and my dad loves cars. We went to see it, and they didn't get it. I cried because I loved it so much. The next day, my dad picked me up from school in it. Memorable quirks? It was used and the previous owner had put an after-market sunroof in that just popped up. It made a lot of squeaking noises, and so did the wheel when you turned it one direction. How long did you have it? From 2000-2006. Its demise? It was in several accidents, including: one major t-bone that almost totaled it, 1 hit and run in a parking garage, 1 backing-into, 1 incident with a guard rail, and 1 accident in the tunnels that held up rush hour traffic for a while. I was involved with all of said accidents but thank god the car and I always came out fine in the end (me better than the car). Finally it just started to die on me, and my dad was nervous about it. I bought another car (paid for the second one myself) - a 2006 lime green Mustang that I also loved. My parents kept the purple car for a little while but eventually traded it in for a - you guessed it - Mustang (a yellow convertible).
OH, I also had a little '89 Honda Accord for a period of time because my parents' insurance dropped me (see above list of accidents), and so my dad wanted to have a car that just needed the most basic coverage. So we bought "putt-putt" for $1,000 or so and I drove it in college for a while. Its air conditioner didn't work - ugh... but I still loved it because I get super attached to all of my cars; I always cry when trading them in.
^Both Mustangs
*Edit: Dream car is a Ferrari, but that won't ever happen, haha. There's a huge list of other cars I love (I'm a bit of a car freak), but I think a BMW M4 hardtop would be AMAZING.
Year/make/model/color? 1983 Maroon Honda Civic Hatchback How did you acquire it? I bought it for $500 from my older sister when she upgraded to a Honda CRX. Memorable quirks? Her name was Bessie and she was not good on hills. I remember being passed by semis when I would have to drive the passes to get to my Dad's in Southern Oregon. How long did you have it? Almost 2 years Its demise? I totaled it in a 3 car accident..I was the middle car.
My dream vehicle would be newer version of what I have...Volvo XC60...or maybe the XC90
89 Bonneville when I was a senior in high school (2005). It was handed down to me from my sister.
It stahlEd out easily once a week random times and shook violently over 60mph
It rusted out in the bottom and too many things fell off to keep up with the repairs
One of my best friends in hs had this same car! She inherited this same car from her grandma. We got her a sticker that said "Yor have to be real secure to be seen in a car like this!" She lucked out though because she never had to drive anywhere!
My first car was a 1993 Toyota Corolla. I bought it from my uncle's sister in law for $3000- my life savings! It whistled like a tea kettle over 60 mph, so it's name was Mrs. Potts after the tea pot in Beauty and the Beast, which then morphed into Angela Landsbury because she was the voice of Mrs Potts. The spring on the seat belt broke once so it was all floppy and didn't retract. Another time it got so hot sitting in the sun, the handle disintegrated in my hand when I went to open it. It was a good little car and I drove it all the way through college when I got a new car as a graduation gift. Well sort of. Mostly my mom just helped with the down payment.

I keep checking this thread for a "car twin". I routinely look for people with the same car & color as us while driving. They are car twins, obvs. Or car cousins = same car, different color or features (roof rack, spoiler)
