I love birth stories so for anyone whose interested:
Short version-21 hour labor ending in a fast forcep delivery. Baby quinn was born at 12:12 am on 2/11.
Long version: woke up at 3 am on the 10th with bloody show and light contractions. I was 40w6d with an induction scheduled for the next evening. Timed cxts until 10 am when they were consistently 4 min apart but only lasting 40s. Called the drs office and they said to come in. I didnt want to because I knew they weren't painful enough yet.
Got to the hospital around 11:15 and was 2.5 cm and 80%. I had been 1 cm and 50% at last check. The cxts spaced out once we got to the hospital so they decided to induce me since I was so overdue. Started on pitocen and broke my water at 2 pm. Lasted through horrible contractions coming every 3 min for 2 hours before asking for the epidural. I was 3 cm and 100% at this point. Epidural was amazing compared to laboring.
From 4-10 I rested in bed but felt extremely naseous and hot the whole time. Was fully dialted by 10 pm but dr wanted to let baby move down more. My heart rate was super high the whole time so they thought I was going to spike a fever but never did.
Started pushing at 11:40. After the first two rounds babys HR dropped so dr decided we were only going to push on every other set of contractions. After a few more pushing rounds heart rate went down again and wouldnt come back up so all of the sudden the room swarmed with people and dr said they had to use forceps and get him out ASAP. Next round of pushes he came out with a very slight forcep assist. Due to that I didnt get to hold him right away and we didnt get to cut the cord. Ended up with a 2nd degree tear and lacerations.
All was well until an hour or so after birth and I had a huge hemorrage. They had to call the dr back and she basically beat on my uterus non stop to get all the clots out. I lost 3x the amount of blood that is normal but not enough to need a transfusion. In turn Ive had to deal with a still elevated heart rate, dizzyness and naseua but 48 hours later and its getting much better. I wasn't expecting recovery to be so hard.
In the end all 7 lb 7 oz and 21 inch of Quinn Patrick was well worth it. Hes latching on really well and so precious
