Today's the day! Started active labor around 10pm last night. Went to L&D and was 4 centimeters. I decided to reward myself with an epidural (and to be honest, I was terrified of the transition pain) got to rest for a couple of hours and now I'm waiting for the doctor to finish some c sections so I can push.
Sorry for the post and run, but these past few days have been insane. Labor was pretty long and rough, but we got through it. However, the next day Alec began having apnic episodes and would stop breathing and turn purple. The first episode happened right in front of us while DH was holding him. It was terrifying.
Alec was taken to the NICU where they found out that he had bled in the subarachnoid membrane in his brain. The blood caused irritation in his nervous system and caused seizures, which caused the apnea.
Thankfully, once his body takes care of dissipating the blood in his brain the seizures will stop. He will be on anti seizure medication till 6 months. They are adjusting his dosage (he needed 2 different medicines to manage the seizures) and he should be ok to go home then. We don't have a discharge date yet, but these have been the longest 4 days of my life.
