Congratulations waitwhat! I'm glad you're recovering so well. It would be best to let your LO nurse as much as he wants to since he is helping your supply come in. However, there are moments where you inevitably cannot nurse him (the car, helping your toddler, etc). Those are times when I think it's completely appropriate to offer a pacifier. If you start noticing signs of nipple confusion, you can take it away. Anecdotally, both my girls never had an issue with it though and we introduced pacis within the first week for both of them.
We gave a pacifier from day 1 and it was the best thing ever. My son had a really strong urge to suck and I had a lot of nipple damage, so I just couldn't do a lot of comfort nursing. If he was still hungry, he'd let me know, haha. As long as you're nursing 10-12+ times a day and there are no weight or supply issues, it's a-okay to give a pacifier.
(Also keep in mind that newborns typically nurse every 2-3 hours, and that's from start of a session to start of a session. And there are growth spurts during the first few days home, days 7-10, 2-3 weeks, 4-6 weeks, on so on. So there are times when they basically nurse nonstop.)
How's everything going? Pretty well. DS is sleeping for some longer stretches, but has decided that 3:00-4:30 am is a good time to be wide awake each night. He had a couple large spit ups yesterday, so I'm trying to be better about burping him more often but less aggressively.
Questions/concerns/cute stories to share? Any advice on getting LO to take a pacifier. I've tried Nuk, MAM, and Soothie, but he seems to hate all 3. I don't generally mind nursing him for comfort when I'm around, but would really like for other care givers to have a pacifier available as an option. For example, when DH tries to get him to go back to sleep during MOTN after a feeding. He'll root on DH, so DH will end up handing him back to me, then DS will suck for a few seconds and then just want to hang out with my boob in his mouth.
How's your postpartum recovery going? Great. Much easier the second time around. By the time I got out of the hospital I felt much better than I had in 3rd tri.

How old is LO? One week
How's everything going? The first week was tough. LO had to stay at the hospital to monitor for possible infection then he ended up jaundice. We got to go home for one night then went back for light therapy. We finally came home again on Saturday so trying to get things figured out, right in time for H to go back to work.
Questions/concerns/cute stories to share? LO never had a good latch from the beginning then we had to deal with jaundice and ended up pumping/supplementing with formula. We're trying to get him back on the boob but he just gets frustrated and starts crying or falls alseep. The lactation consultant gave us some good tips to try but I'm worried that we ruined him with the bottles.
How's your postpartum recovery going? Still a little sore but it's been fine overall.
GTKY: what's your favorite hobby, other than sleeping? I'm pretty boring and can't think of a real hobby.
goldenlove3 glad you're home! Bottle preference can be overcome, though it can be hard work. Have you tried doing breast compressions once LO is latched? This would speed the flow until letdown happens. Hand expressing until letdown then latching is an option, but may be tricky this early on depending on where your supply is at.
You may ask the LC about a supplemental nursing system and if that could help get LO back to breast.
If you do give bottles, be sure you're using paced feeding techniques so the bottle isn't quite as fast / easy.

Thanks for the advice. I've tried compressions but I don't think it comes fast enough for him still. My next attempt will be to use the pump first because it comes out quicker that way. The LC did give us tools for finger feeding with the tube so I'm going to start trying that too.
How's everything going? Things are still super hectic. HL has been out of the hospital just over a week and now I have a horrible sinus infection following what the doctor thinks is a virus I picked up from staying there for the 8 days.
Questions/concerns/cute stories to share? Is taking Amoxicillin ok when breastfeeding? The doctors said it was fine, but a friend of mine told me to look out for thrush.
How's your postpartum recovery going? It was going ok until this sinus infection.
GTKY: what's your favorite hobby, other than sleeping? Before I would say sewing. Now I am on the verge of starting a blog on Wordpress and have a feeling that will become my new hobby.

Amoxicillin is totally safe. Thrush is a yeast infection that can be caused my taking any antibiotic. Make sure to diligently change your breast pads, air dry your nipples when you can. Yeast likes warm, damp, dark places. A good probiotic will help too.

melody330 Thank you I haven't had to use any breast pads yet so one less thing for me to worry about. Do you have a suggestion for a certain probiotic?
