I volunteered to host t-giving for MIL and can't decide what to fix. It'll just be 3 adults & B. My fam will do the usual turkey & dressing, etc so I want 5o stir clear of that. (H isn't a huge fan of Turkey so one session is enough)
Any suggestions? What do you do?
H mentioned doing a ham, which is an option, but I don't like ham & would rather fix something I'll actually eat.

buffet style sandwiches. Roast pork, turkey for those who want it (just get a breast only and cook that), cold ham. Fixings such as pickles, olives, rolls, cranberry sauce, gravy, condiments etc.

Could also do roast pork, turkey breast, and roast beef. Covers all the basic animals and has something for everyone. Between this thread and the UO thread on parenting I'm drooling at my desk.
like thanksgiving dinner in a taco? Or turkey tacos? or something completely different? I'm intrigued.
I do have a super good turkey taco meat recipe but I thought we were throwing tradition to the wind! When I read casual lunch buffet style my brain just jumped to tacos.
peachesncream Mexican food does sound good. I could make my guacamole too. I'm liking that idea...tacos or enchiladas maybe. I could make layered dip for snacking/appetizer.

So H's family is really big I non traditional foods for holidays. One year we had enchiladas, last year we had spaghetti.
I say, put a roast with potatoes and carrots in the crockpot. Start it the night before, voila, lunch with minimal effort. You know I'm all about the minimal effort.

I'm with you on minimal effort; however if I'm busy cooking, I have a much needed & valid distraction from MIL 😉

True, I did forget that. Do venison tacos and make your own taco seasoning! If you have the cube steak, I like it better than the ground meat, but either work great. Making your own seasoning will keep you busy in the kitchen while she is there.
OMG yum. It's one of my favorites and it gets decimated whenever I bring it to events.
Yummy! I just made the pioneer woman's mac and cheese yesterday for the first time. So amazingly good.
I love that this recipe is in the slow cooker. I'm a huge fan of anything I can set and forget. I'd probably used cut up poblanos though since mh is really sensitive to spicy food. The last time i made anything with green chilis in it, I regretted it for days after.
