I love birth stories, so here's my long one.
TL;DR : Little Dish (Saucer? misshart00) was born February 3 at 2:44am weighing in at 7lbs 8oz and 20.5in long. It was an uncomplicated medicated birth, with 13 hours of labor and 58 minutes of pushing.
Now for the long (seriously, long) story...
Sunday the 1st I went into L&D with limited fetal movement. We did a NST and she passed, though I still had only felt her move four times in over 8 hours. They sent me home and said to continue to keep an eye on it. I was annoyed and anxious with the lack of concern! It was so frustrating.
Monday the 2nd, I went in again because I had no movement in four hours. We got to L&D at noon and got all hooked up. Once again, she passed with flying colors, but I still had zero movements. I was not going home without a better answer. When the nurse came back in, she asked if I was feeling any contractions. I had felt a few but nothing seemed consistent. She said I was contracting every 2 to 4 minutes and they were 60 to 90 seconds long. Um, weird! They decided to do a cervical check and I was 80% effaced and 3cm dilated. My last check a week earlier I was at 60%, 2cm. They thought I might be in early labor so sent me to walk the halls for an hour.
My next check was around 4pm and I had progressed to 3.5/ maybe a 4, still 80% effaced. Once again I was sent to walk the halls for an hour.
Around 5:30/6ish, my OB came in to check me. I was at a 4.5 and they didn't want to send me home. I still hadn't been feeling any of my contractions. They decided to break my bag and holy hell did I feel my contractions after that. I went from a zero pain level to a 7/8 in a matter of minutes.
Since they broke my bag, they didn't want to move me for an hour for monitoring. Worst hour ever. I had to lay in the bed and not move through my contractions.
Finally I got admitted and moved to my room. I tried to continue to labor without an epidural but the pain was just way too much. We ordered the epi around 8ish and the anesthesiologist came so quickly. They checked me again and I was at a 5. The epidural was amazing. I immediately didn't have any pain. I still had full movement and feeling though. It was bizarre, and wonderful.
An hour later they checked me and I was a 6. This is when things started to slow down. I stopped progressing. We started a low dose of pitocin around 12:30 (I think). I was still at a 6 at this point.
At 1am, I was feeling some serious pressure and feeling like I was going to poop. I called the nurse back in and she was shocked. I was at an 8. She called my OB in, and she arrived by 1:30. I was at a 10, baby was extremely low, and we were ready to push.
My contractions never had a consistent pattern, they were all over the place with time in between. Pushing took forever because we had to wait so long in between. I pooped the wholeeee time. I still say that it was my motivation because I seriously just wanted to get all the poop out of me. I was so irritated by it. 58 minutes later, Little Dish made her appearance! She's beautiful and so wide eyed and curious.
We had some latch issues which led to jaundice and 10% weight loss, so we supplemented and did only bottle for a few days. We are all on track now and she no longer has jaundice issues and is back to birth weight! Yay!
If you made it thru this, you get a cookie! Thanks!
