IF you haven't seen it, its very good. Its about the criminalization of blackness and the rise of the prison industrial complex. I take issue with a few things, but Ive lived through some of this (working in prisons for 18 years) and I say its worth a watch. If only to see how deeply imbedded the problems are, and what we are up against
Agreed. Its enraging and saddening. Very clearly has a point of view, but rise of the for profit prison, and the mass incarceration of a generation of men, has devastated and contributed to disenfranchising whole communities. I work in a state agency but the corporate greed is visible here too. No surprise that the unions were decertified- and the biggest group of state personnel affected? Corrections. Under paid, understaffed, and working in increasingly dangerous conditions-we no longer have any voice, and the push to privatize state institutions is next.
All the above is to say, its not offenders vs staff. We are all increasingly locked up. And although the film makes a brilliant point about Bill Clintons role in this, Im not confident the Administration- to- be has any interest in the lives of either side of the bars.
