Here's Sydney's birth story:
I was having some on/off contractions for most of the day on Monday. Tuesday they were more on than off and between 10 to 30 minutes apart. I had a MW appointment in the morning and opted to get checked since I was sure all these contractions were resulting in some sort of progress. But nope, I will still partially closed...I was so surprised and disappointed.
The contractions finally started picking up in the evening and were sticking around 10 minutes but it wasn't until around 10 pm that they started to become more frequent. I called the MW around 12:30 once I was 5-1-1 and we made plans to meet at the hospital.
We got to the hospital just after 1 am. I was at 6 cm at that point. The contractions were getting more and more intense and I found that kneeling was a good position for me. Eventually, I moved to the bed and was kneeling there with the back up. There was a lot of screaming going on and I found the contractions were much more painful and intense than my first labour. The MW suggested that she break the water because the baby would come right out after that.
I got checked again and was at 8 cm. The MW broke my water and while I was expecting a slight relief from the pain, instead it felt like my pelvis was being broken in half...cue more screaming. At this point I think I was yelling 'I'm dying', to which the MW said 'You're in too much pain to be dying'. lol I was pretty worried I was going to pass out at that point because I was really out of it. The MW helped me focus and talked me through the pushing, which took about 5 minutes. Again, this hurt a hell of a lot more than last time, I felt like my vagina was ripping three ways from Sunday but turns out it was only 1 stitch (last time was 6).
Born on her due date at 2:48 am, she weighed 6'14", 19 inches long and has skinny little chicken legs that are super cute! I was able to leave the hospital shortly after and got home at 6 am.
Sydney is being loved by her big sister, who has claimed a few pacifiers as "mine". Nursing with DD1 was a breeze whereas this time we are having a few small challenges with latch, laziness and a slight tongue tie but we're getting there! Turns out DD2 also doesn't care to sleep alone so we are bed sharing again for now - poor DH booted to the couch.
