How's everything going? Breastfeeding is going well so far. I'm still working on the latch, we're a little shallow at times so it can be a bit painful.
Questions/concerns/cute stories to share? Last night she nursed every hour/hour and a half. Surprised by this a bit since during the day she was every 2-3. My nipples are sore and I'm tired. I'm not 100% that all nursing was due to hunger.
What is something about your newborn(s) that surprised you? How loud she can be and how much she looks like her brother (he's 3).
GTKY: what's something you're looking forward to in December? Holiday with the family and getting out of the newborn phase. I love it but as she gets older we'll have a better routine which I'm looking forward to.
Hopefully you can encourage LO to have her longer stretches of sleep at night instead of during the day. Nursing every hour is normal newborn behavior, and it's important LO nurses a lot - at least 10-12x per 24 hours. Some newborns are so sleepy you need to rouse them to get that many nursing sessions in. You can tend to relax a bit once she gets back to birth weight, which is usually within 2 weeks. Of course if LO is asking every hour, then she's taking care of this on her own :-)
Are you using nipple cream after every feeding? Lanolin, coconut oil, earth mama angel baby nipple butter are all good options. You can express breastmilk and let air dry, then apply nipple cream to help keep your nipples protected.
Delia is a good eater. She has spaced her feedings a bit more which has given me longer stretches of sleep. She's almost back to her birth weight already.
I'm still working on the latch. Sometimes it's painfree, sometimes not. It will just take some practice on my part and based on her weight gain she's obviously she's getting plenty of milk.
