DHs birthday is this weekend, so I dropped him and his friends off tonight at one of those simulated golf places. I didn't feel like cooking after the long week at work (lots of snowy driving) so I stopped at Wendy's on the way home. I picked DD up a kids meal that consisted of a grilled chicken wrap with cheddar cheese, Apple slices and 1% milk. I cut up the chicken with cheese out of the wrap along with the apple slices... She loved it!
I don't have any plans to order another kids meal out soon, but I thought it might be nice to hear of other decent "healthy" options to feed kids when you are on the go and need to make a quick stop.
No help here, my DD wont even eat a "normal" meal, she has staple items she eats and I try to mix them up for variety. She eats crackers and vegetable hummus, cheese, and sweet potato applesauce or peanut butter toast, fruit, and yogurt most nights. So my only suggestions would be "quick" items like these, if we were ever forced to eat out we'd be in trouble that's for sure!
We rarely eat fast food, generally the only place we go is Taco Time (is that just a northwest thing or is Taco Time everywhere?) They have great nuggets made with nice chunks of chicken breast rather than mystery meat and she loves them. Other than that, if I forget to pack something we usually swing through starbucks or some other coffee shop, they have those protein plates with cheese, crackers, fruit, etc that are healthy and DD loves them with her "coffee" (steamed whole milk). Otherwise I just try to keep snacks in the diaper bag in case I forget to pack lunch such as squeeze pouches, crackers, or cheerios. If we go out to dinner we order for her off the kid's menu if they have one, or the regular menu if they don't, but she eats just about anything so we don't have much trouble getting her to eat healthy. The girl loves her food.
We only recently started getting Happy Meals for DS because MIL gets him one once in a while when they are out together, and he figured out that he gets a toy with one. (Incidentally, McDonalds will sell just the toy for $1 or $2 if you don't want to buy a Happy Meal.) I still think there is way too much food in a Happy Meal, so we just don't encourage him to finish it. He mostly wants the GoGurt and fries, anyway.
We just are out at Tijuana Flatts and got the kids meal cheese quesadilla. Huge portion but it came with a banana and chips ( we don't encourage chips right now since she's mostly still all gums). It was fast and she ate it
Eating out. Panera Bread for the grilled cheese or mac & cheese. Quesadillas. Chick filament. DS will actually eat the chicken. At diners. Eggs and toast.
Usually we feed DS at home then go out to eat. DS will usually eat something off our plates at the restaurants.
Most fast food places offer a grilled chicken wrap, which is what we typically go with. I always keep fruit in my diaper bag for her(Clementine, applesauce pouch, cut up grapes). At diner type places, we get her applesauce and a sandwich. She really loves the tomato and mozzarella panini at Panera Bread. At Mexican or Italian restaurants she just eats whatever I'm eating. I'm lucky though and DD is not a picky eater at all
