I'm just over 36 weeks pregnant with my second child. With my first I had an ameda pump for work. He was a preemie and I had the medela hospital pump for a while though. My insurance now covers a new pump. I have all my supples from last time and my old pump. I'll keep the Ameda in the car (since I have a converter) but I'm wondering if I should get the same brand or a medela for the office.
Wwyd? Any benefit to two different pumps? More hassle?
I had two Amedas, one for home and one for work. It worked great. I don't know what other pump parts look like, but as long as you won't accidentally bring the wrong set to work it should be fine with two different brands.
The motor on the Ameda I received via insurance was a dud (only pumped 10 minutes before shutting down/over-heating). I contacted Ameda CS (NOT the medical provider) and they overnight-ed me a new motor unit and just asked that I put the bad unit in a box on the porch and they picked it up.
It worked fine for the year I used it, but I was never a high producer and had to pump frequently to keep up. I would get a Medela if I have another child; sounds like they have more suction power. If you produce well for the pump, then it makes more sense to stick with the same brand. If not, than another brand may be a better choice.

I had motor issues with my ameda too and they had to send me a new one. I had an oversupply so I think I would have produced well with anything. Heck I got a lot from a hand pump. But this time I won't have a preemie to give me an oversupply so I'm not sure how it will go.
I'm going to call and double check my options. Thanks for all your input!
I have all Ameda pumps, they have all worked fine but I really liked the Ameda Elite even over the Platinum. I would stay consistent so you can interchange parts.
With the insurance change so now more moms are getting pumps than ever before I believe ameda had a hard time ramping up their manufacturing this last year. They had a recall on some parts and a bit higher failure rate for a while. I believe that's been fixed but who knows for sure
However they've been very good about replacing defective pumps. I've always preferred the ameda pumps because they are closed system pumps which are better pumps overall for resale and to keep out any potential mold mildew or yeast spores.
