I have been reading that you should only sleep basically on your left side, but the information is conflicting on when you should start to do this. I am typically a stomach sleeper and can still get comfortable in that position, or I sleep on my right side. Has anyone started worrying about how they are sleeping? STM+ mom's-when did you start worrying about sleeping positions that are best for pregnancy?
I'm a firm believer that your body will tell you if it doesn't like that position. With dd I sometimes slept on my back and after a little bit my leg would go numb promoting me to move to my side. So basically your body and baby will tell you if it isn't happy. I think left side is suppose to be best for circulation. I always tried to sleep on my left, but if I wasn't comfortable I'd try something else.
I sleep how ever is comfortable. Usually around 15-20 weeks, laying on my back gets uncomfortable and that's about when the uterus gets too big to lay that way. Then once heart burn becomes unbearable, I lay on left side so less acid comes up.

From what I have read you can sleep on your stomach until it's not comfortable. I have also read that your body will basically wake you up if you start to be in a compromising position. I am also a stomach sleeper but find myself sleeping less and less often completely flat on my stomach and more often kind of angled with my leg propped up a bit.
Not pregnancy related but in March I had my appendix out and couldn't sleep on my stomach because it hurt. I slowly found myself transitioning to more on my stomach over a few weeks all while in my sleep. I am a firm believer that your body naturally knows what it needs.

Same here. After awhile, I couldn't lie on my stomach anymore because my ute was poking into the mattress. And then lying on my back made me unable to breathe. I ended up sleeping propped up on a reading pillow for the rest of my pregnancy. Or sometimes in the recliner towards the end. So your body will let you know.

+1. I often sleep on my stomach but am now not able to stay asleep very long that way.
I have always been a side sleeper, but I change sides often during the night. I never worried about the left side in particular because even if that's how I fall asleep I often wake up on my right side. As I got more pregnant last time and woke up frequently to pee I found I liked to alternate sides between wake ups.

Yeah, this isn't something to stress about. Just follow what your body tells you to do.
I was a belly sleeper before DD but it never came back. Between pregnancy and then breastfeeding for 15 months, belly sleeping wasn't happening. I have been a side sleeper this time around with a pillow between my knees. I remember walking up during my first pregnancy on my back and the urge that I need to roll over immediately because I couldn't breathe. Just don't do it quickly because of the round ligament pain!
I'm a belly sleeper too. I'm with everyone else in that your body will tell you when you need to reposition yourself. If you have a snoogle, though, you might be able to coil it up and get away with sleeping on your belly that way for a while. I've been doing that over the last week and it's wonderful!
I've been sleeping more like teachermomtobe; less flat on my stomach, and more with my leg propped up under me.
My Dr. has told me that you can sleep on your belly until it's uncomfortable. I think I slept on my belly until about halfway through my first pregnancy I'm pretty sure.
