Thanks danib & vinolove! It was the first time I encountered that situation and I'm sure it will happen many more times while I'm still nursing. I'll just have to find my comfort level.
Ugggghhhhh. I'm basically living on coffee. DS1 has hit the 18 month sleep regression so basically by the time I get DS2 fed and settled his brother is up. Hit repeat.
tell me more about this regression. I have a 17 month old and I'm scared.
FWIW my DS never went through this. Unless maybe he saved it for 23 months and that's what's happening to us right now.
We had an interesting night here. D nursed on the left at bedtime and then slept for almost a 7 hour stretch (8:45-3:35)!! I went to bed at 9:30 (though didn't fall right asleep of course) and then got up at 2:15 because I needed to pump my right side. I just did a couple minutes to take the edge off. Then went back to bed and caught a power nap before she finally woke up to eat.
Even with the pumping it was an epic meal for the poor kid. I hate how forceful my letdown is under normal circumstances, let alone when she essentially sleeps through a feeding.
So anyway she had trouble settling afterwards and so now I'm rocking her with her laying upright on my chest and hopefully that helps and I can go back to bed for a little. Tomorrow is my first day home with the two kids and no DH. My nanny and MIL are going to help for part of the day but I still need more sleep and prayers.

dashook, have you tried laying flat on your back, or just really reclined, when you nurse after a long stretch? Not sure if that would help slow things down a little or not.

No but I should. Just need to figure out where in my house I can do this. Nursing her in the glider in the nursery is just so convenient!
waitwhat I don't have experience with a heavy spitter but I know I've read that what comes up always looks like way more than it actually probably is, since it's mixed with stomach fluids, etc. I think as long as he's thriving like you said, then you don't need to worry about whether he's coughing up everything he just ate.
waitwhat C spit up that much. I literally had to make sure I had multiple recieving blankets on me at all times. I did soooo much laundry. He was happy and gaining like crazy (and I never offered extra after he spit up). Doctor said he was a "happy spitter" and would grow out of it (whuch he did)
I remember you telling me this and I keep reminding myself that it's probably not an issue. The amount is just sometimes alarming. It's never projectile but it literally pours out of his mouth and it looks like everything he just ate!
We have the same problem! This kid spits up a lot. I also can't tell if he's still hungry after but he usually isn't. I'm guessing it's extra that he doesn't need. Now after he poops, he screams for food like he is starving! Apparently it empties his tummy or something lol.

Haha! I think D likes to be "empty" when she eats too. Sometimes she'll start off nursing kinda slow and has this look of concentration on her face, then suddenly she pulls off, poops loudly, and goes right back to eating vigorously. It cracks me up!

cheshie6 No, C's weight didn't go up then down but it was a really slow increase over the 3 weeks. Birth weight was 7.1 lbs and he was 6.6 at the first ped visit at 5 days old. He only went from 6.8 to 6.9 lbs from 1 week to 2 weeks. But then he was 7.5 at 3 weeks. It just took him some time to start really gaining. I also think his weights were off because he was IV'd when he was under the billi lights and I'm guessing it added a lot of water weight.
During those weeks, he was mostly breast fed (pumped) with a little bit of formula. I've read the same thing about the weight scales being different but hopefully your doctor knows which one to use if he knows you're breast feeding. I know it's going to be a stressful week but just keep feeding him like you are and wait for the next weigh-in. I'm sure he'll be fine!

Yes! C does that too. The problem is that sometimes he finishes his bottle before he poops then he wants more food but won't finish the new bottle. Such a waste!
